Sony ZV1 Review: The Ultimate Vlogging Camera?

I know that the ZV-1 is touted as the vlogging camera, however I think that the camera has great capability as a point and shoot. I have had mine for almost a week now, and I have to say that I love it. I bought a couple of extra batteries and a small rig with grip which allows me to reposition gymbols and other add ons and still allow me to access the battery door. Right now that ZV-1 can be found for discounts at your neighboring BestBuy and you can even find plenty of open boxes. I think the menu system because it has not changed on the Zv-1, makes the camera feel very familiar. For myself because I am going to use the camera more for stills makes this the better choice than the Mark II.

Hello Jordan: I have a hero 11 Black for video in my tips. I world like to have a better camera with a better lens, but i dont want a big camera.....can you recommend a small camera with a good lens and stabilization?

The Sony ZV1 have two standout features:
- Crazy good autofocus for the price and size
- Incredible image quality for the price and size

Canon pocket cameras, Panasonic pocket cameras, GoPros, etc, are far below, only other Sony cameras can match the quality, like the RX100 mk7. The only other two compact cameras that are up to the ZV1 quality could be the Canon G1X MK2 (pricier, bulkier, no 4k, no slowmo / high fps video), with DualPixel autofocus and APS-C sensor, excellent 1080p 60fps, better stabilization, and weather sealed. Other could be the DJI Pocket 2, gimbal stabilizer, very good image quality (ZV1 is better), cheaper, smaller.

A USB type c in 2020 would have been way more futureproof.

I dont really see the difference with this camera and the latest iPhone. The video isnt bad but would you recommend I just use my latest iphone or spend the extra cash and get the ZV1?

Chris calls it exactly! Studio and webcam use it is far and away the best simple camera you can get. Sure it can vlog but as a studio A talking head camera, it just doesn't get any better thanks to absolutely brilliant AF and the Product Showcase feature.

But in low light images are very noisy! Am I missing something? Also compare to a7C, a7C is noisy when you are recording video and not simple for auto shooting like zv1. Please advise.

The problem with smartphones is that they put the crappy camera on the front with the screen, and the good cameras on the back, so you can’t vlog with the good camera!

I've recently purchased the Sony zv-1 and after 30mins recording in 4k.. the camera shuts down due to internal overheating!! Anyone know how to combat this??? . Im really disappointed, I had high hopes 😔 😞

Im interested in knowing if Jordan shot the Fuji on manual focus, because its known to focus hunt on auto. It wasnt doing that in this video. Quality footage.

it looks like it gets its cheeks clapped by the iphone :/ I mean the draw to it being roughly pocket sized and lighter/less bulky than a dslr,mirrorless, surely just stick with your phone? It's not like if you're in the market for a camera of this price that you're likely to skimp on your phone's camera anyway. Idk its fun playing with new cameras that have features like s log and slow motion but surely if that matters, you would just get an A7s?

Hey, regarding the lack of a video/photo switch one thing that is cool is that that you can take pictures while recording a video (Dual record). It does not work in all modes and I think it's full resolution but cropped for the movie aspect ratio so not perfect but better than most other cameras out there.......

Currently I use a g7x mark iii (upgraded from a mask 2) I’m one of those that likes the compact cameras. To the people saying just use your phone. Why? Cameras look so much better lol.

Can you use sony imaging edge software also to apply active steadyshot on different cameras like the a6400?

Great review. One thing I would love to see that I haven't seen anyone cover is adding a tripod extension with rotating head to the vlogging grip. You would still have all of the function it currently has but you could get a lot more of the background that everyone seems to want from the camera.
