Can someone explain to me why with اريد for example, you need the Alif with Dammah instead of just the و ?
As I'm typing this, I realise it might be because otherwise it would be uureedu instead of ureedu, right?
It definitely doesn't make it easier when you're a beginner and read اريد (especially without the diacritics) and think it should be pronounced "Aareed", only to discover that it's quite different :)
