THAMES MUDLARKING Garnets, Pins And Our First Ring!

Yes the shell with the hole is abalone. In NZ it is called Paua and used to make lovely jewellery.

I’m from America, so just want to know what’s the deal with the pins? Are they sewing pins? Tailor pins? What’s the significance? I
Iike them, but want to know the importance of them.

I'm not sure, but I think the ring looks like a morning ring. Or it's that color from being in the water for so long. It's old for sure.

Wonderful finds! On the mother of pearl, they make wind chimes from them, inlay jewelry, and the American indian did and still make bird fetishes for jewelry and garments, If you had a dremmel and a file they can be very easily made and I always loved them. or you can put small hole on the sides, use jumper ringer to make bracelets n such. Love the garnets! I wonder if the crimp ball finding they use in jewelry could hold them may have to glue them in but would make nice earrings and dangle for bracelets!

The mother of pearl piece with the hole is abalone shell. Native to South Africa and Canada's Pacific coast. The abalone animal has 6 eyes that protrude through those holes on stalks, like a snail's eyes.

I know I have watched this a bit late, oooh I love you two for giving me so much pleasure throughout the year. It's worth a repeated warning that sanding, drilling, or cutting shell can be very dangerous to your health. The dust is extremely sharp and will cause lung scarring. Please do some research if you do decide to shape these pieces. They are really beautiful and can be wire wrapped or glued onto findings from which they can be suspended.

The Mother of pearl coloured with the hole looks like a fish

The piece with the hole in it is a abalone shell beautiful rainbow colors in it. Will make beautiful jewery I have many pieces myself and two whole abalone shells I love them.

You know silver is not magnetic nor gold but as dark as it is not gold maybe sterling or copper .

You should carry small plastic ptescription bottles for those tiny stones and pins. No added weight to your bags.

I read down a bit to see if anyone said anything about the hook and blobby thingy. I think it is a finger-mounted cigarette holder. Oddly, they would wear it like a ring and insert the cigarette on top of a length of brass so their fingers didn't get burned or yellowed from tobacco use. These were popular in the very early 1900s.

Did yall ever find out anything on the ring?

The piece of shell that has the hole and is in colors of blues and greens, is a piece of abalone shell. In California, we have these shell fish.

Where is that beautiful gem she picked up first?

Isn’t the mother of pearl actually from sea shells?? I just went to Michigan and found some of the same stuff and it’s all broken seashell! None the less everything is so beautiful! I hope one day soon to come to your neck of the world 🌎 to go mudlarking! It’s a bucket list :) planning for next year!!! ❤️🙏
