Why Does My Car Axle Click? Diagnosing and Explaining Axle Noises

my car clicks when i reverse or when i put it in drive its coming from the rear right wheel idk what it is

Quick Question: will tightening the axle nut fix play between the drifeshaft and hub splines causing a clunk on load changes? AKA 'axle-ping'.

mine look fine like new but i hear click clic lcik especially if i run backfwrd turing right, camry 2008 now they sell regreasing kit but i wonder if its gonna fix the clicking noise!

Hi guy i noticed that one of my rear axle inner boot rubber closer to the diff was torn and most of the grease had come out, while i was putting back grease in it i saw pieces of the pin metals falling out. Does this mean my axle needs to be replaced? Thank you in advance.

Porsche Cayman next to me put his spoiler up , I thought " thats f*****g it" ... nailed it ,he was dust , boost pipe comes off, my car is the only one in the world that wont run with intercooler pipe off , hard shoulder (side of the freeway) lots of Debris , punctures BOTH inner and outer boots, alternator gets coated in grease aswell as debris , engine strap snaps some how.....lots of fun in a classic Ford ......Porsche Cayman cruises past with a smirk lol

I'm at 100k miles with a noisy front bearing. I;m going to go ahead and do both right and left bearings and while I have it apart, go ahead and do the axles and brakes.

Can the outer Bering change how to remove it

We used tie strap on the shaft

I got a b13 and the axle when removing the outer shaft just drop out is the c clip Bad

Hey Len. Does a bad cv axle make the vehicle wobble when the vehicle reaches 35 mph and then goes away around 50 mph. No noise. Please advise.

Zip ties can be used to fasten those boots.

Thank you so much for explaining how the bearings on the inner joint have to be spread outwards to go back in if your axle falls out. I've been trying to get my axle back in, and it will not go back in, and I'm pretty sure this is why.

Great explanation of "Axle Separation".... explained my problem. of why it's so long at the tranny side and won't shrink...... so I cant get the axle out!.... tried sawing the axle with a jigsaw... Ha Ha... it's made with uncuttable super hard steel... now I just hope to get the bearings back into their housing to take the axle out.... or I'll try the hacksaw :D

If your boot is torn, you already have contaminants in the bearings.
Just replace the whole axel on the bad side. It's easier to replace and isn't really all that expensive.
Also: Find the ones with a lifetime guarantee.👍

I ha e 2017 ford fusion hibrid. There is some click weird noise when I go at 60mph. Transmission shifting is normal and everything else but noise is like on the front let bottom side. Tech put up the car in the rack and axles looks look besides some noise when he shook it back and fort

Be sure to appreciate how much easier it is to turn after new axles are installed. First time I did some full turns after replacing them on a GMC Yukon I was truly amazed.

I usually just machine my own cv axles out of recycled pop cans wrapped with gorilla tape around my custom cv joint.....

Do you ever pack these with semi oil grease?

My equinox makes a clunk sound when slowing down, like something is sliding within its mount. Happens going forward but loudest when our in reverse. Motor mount?

A-1 Auto I had an issue with two Big Box Automotive stores, relative to my 2003 Cadillac Deville with 4.6V*. Each store stated that there was a left and right-hand CV axle for these vehicles but the left one was not available and discontinued; all except one! One store employee said that the left and rights were the same, which appeared to be the case because they were the same length when the axle was extended slightly, and they were identical in appearance. Question: Is this true, are they both the same axle?
After installing the axle provided the grinding sound from that side (left) of the vehicle has disappeared, I'm just curious at this point in time!
