Do I need to change my current MSI Z690 Tomahawk WiFi DDR4 to Z790 DDR5 version for better performance. Right now I have an i5 13500 but if I change the motherboard I'll definitely change the CPU to an i5 13600K or an i7 13700K. Current GPU RTX 3070 but going to upgrade to RTX 4080 sooner. Any suggestions?

Could you please make a comparison video with more budget-friendly MBs?
Gigabyte Z790 GAMING X AX, Gigabyte Z790 UD AX, Msi Z790 GAMING PLUS WIFI, ASRock Z790 Steel Legend WiFi, and so on?
Temps, power consumption, RAM support, stability, some productivity/gaming test, etc

I'd much rather have a 10 GbE port than Wi-Fi 7. Wi-Fi to me on these expensive boards is totally absurd, especially if you FPS game.

I thought you misspoke when you said the price of the AsRock nova board considering the features it has on it are comparable to the other boards which now cost $500. Nope, It's just that much cheaper. Unfortunately right now, the going price is around $330 being what I would consider a good deal as opposed to a true bargain at $270.

It is sad that Gigabyte tries to hide all the features on their new boards and charge more for their white boards and give you less. It is the same with AMD x670e/B650 boards as they sell you the same name boards and add Ice and X and lower the PCB layers to 6. Gigabyte hides their features like ALC897 Codec audio and just call it High Def. and force you to find it somewhere in all their Docs. Gigabyte has no problem showing the ALC 1220 Codec in the main description. The Pro X would have been the perfect board if done the right way Like M.2 gen 5 and PCIe Gen 5 but they didn't and they still charge way to much just to get white. The Gigabyte Pro X looks great but they now kimit you to M.2 Gen 5 OR PCIe 16x but you don't get both and I don't call that a upgrade for the price. All the board Companies make the latest board and make them the same or cheaper and CHARGE YOU MORE. The sad part is they add WI Fi7 and you can buy and install it for $43 and they chatge $100's and you get nothing more.

So what MB can you get if you want to run CPU at Intel 14900k with Video Card GF RTX4080 and a Gen5 NVMe...seems all MB if you use a Gen5 NVM the Graphics card slot drops from 16 pin to 8 pin which If I am correct that make the video card under perform up to 50%....Am I correct in saying that ?

Can’t understand why Apex Encore is not in the comparison. It’s cheaper than the dark hero and the only one on capable of run real +8200 MT/s. The dark and all other 4 dimms (2DPC) barely can do 7400/600. The dark it’s a scam.

Your prices are... from where?

But also, that "stock thermal performance" section is just atrocious. Your whining about bios defaults - and literally no one else (with a large enough sub count) would call this an "intel problem" - perhaps Intel should be a little more controlling over that, but I dont think going down taht road is warranted. If mobo makers drown CPU's in unending power or dont, that is up to them and the buck stops with them, but really, if you ar gaming on i7 or i9, and you are not playing around with those settings, then perhaps the high end is not for you.

wondering if these boards that offer the Thunderbolt 4 connectivity have the same limitations as the ASUS Z790 Pro Art Creator board which will not run USB-3.2 and 'only allows actual Thunderbolt signal. Seems like a bit of crookery from ASUS 'and' any motherboard boasting full TB4 processing. ???

Wifi 6, 6e and 7 not a real selling point? Just curious if I should save here but I do want to build something good for next 3-5 years I have been trying to decide on slowly upgrading my rig or full bore build and sell current. As much as changed with socket and ddr5 and pci5.0 now. I am running an older z490 asus tuf with 3070 32gb ddr4 3600. I would like the more m2 drive slots of new boards and pcie5 and ddr5. So on the part you talk about the power limits I have always loved my asus boards and products but yes they do take having to remove limits to run them the best. I will probably be buying another asus board

Thanks for this video. I am in the market for a motherboard pairing with i5 13500. I need a PC for work mostly (graphic design and photography) and I am not doing OC. I ask you for an opinion about a system without a video card. My monitor is a 4k, 60Hz, (Adobe RGB-99%, DCI_P3-99%) 27 inch. Also I do printing quite often. I need WiFi because I can't wire my computer to the modem. Consistency is my goal. I was looking at Asus ProArt motherboards. What to seek in a motherboard for my needs? Thank you.

Wow, firstly congratulations to 1 Million subscribers.

Did you mean PL1 unlocked instead PL2? Because PL falls back to PL1 after 56 seconds.

Some more ideas for testing:
1) DDR speeds possible
2) Boot speed with different options: Fast Boot & Windows Fast Boot + unchecking unnecessary boot devices (USB stick, SATA etc.)
3) M.2 speeds
4) USB speeds. Maybe also with multiple at once
5) WiFi/LAN speeds. I guess not all use Intel (?)

First i used the 14900k on a Tomahawk DDR4 and the XTU stress tests were failing, now with Z790 Dark Hero no problems.

Having PL1=PL2=253W lets run the CPU max at 210-220W with lower clock speeds, while having 288W limit (Tomahawk) it pulled up to 288W with higher clockspeeds. It is trange that it doesn’t hits at standard Intel limits the PL. I have a game that can push the CPU to over 200W. If the game performs better if i maybe set 300W PL1 & PL2 or unlimited? Because there is the invisible wall of 210-220W at Intel PL. Dark Hero has PL1 253W and PL2 unlimited.

Personal recommendation: I have used manual OC with static voltage and clocks for over a decade now. While boosting is nice, I prefer to instead limit the maximum speed to avoid hitting thermal throttling. This ensures consistent performance. Also, while the system may not be as fast as possible, the room doesn’t get as hot. Intel’s boosting behavior will consume every last watt for greatly diminishing returns in power, performance, and heat generation. The final benefit is also noise, because the fans don’t need to spin up to keep the system cool.

It is amazing to see such a big, 30C, difference in temperatures. I think if Cinebench scores were reported, the boards with the highest temperatures would have slightly higher performance. Also had you the ability to measure noise, the fan noise and temperature would correlate quite nicely. To really see the difference in quality of the boards, each of the boards would have to be set up exactly the same using the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. Using core frequency can be misleading because a thread on a high frequency core will cause that core to overheat and the thread will be moved to a cooler core. This movement of the thread takes time but does no useful work.

Using the older version of the Aorus Master, I did an under frequency, under voltage, set the turbo boost time to 1 second, and set a power limit of 260 watts on a 13900K, and still got a 30 minute Cinebench 23 score of over 40000 while Furmark was running on a 4090 GPU.

Something's up here. It doesn't seem right that running with 250-280W power limits vs letting it run unlimited/thermally limited at 308-330W would result in a 1.5-1.8GHz difference in clock speed. I'd expect a few hundred points difference in the score and around 100MHz lower clocks.
