I struggled with my beliefs for a long time. Was brought up in the church. Non-denominational Christian. My parents were disciples already for over a decade before having me and my sister. Every Sunday, Midweeks, and bible talks. As a child they had Kingdom Kids. As a 5 year old you cant even fathom or wrap your mind around God or the price Jesus paid for sacrificing himself for our sins. You're taught there's a big man in the Sky and as long as you're obedient and thanful, he won't abandon you. Then you start growing up. You see disciples fall away, you see what power does to simple people, and if you're life goes sideways like mine did you pray and wonder why this happened if we were so loyal? Then you start to resent, blame God, and rebel because you feel he isnt what they promised he would be. I took that path. Once i dismissed God completely my life went completely downhill for the next decade. At first the ride seems fun, you're gettin girls, you start selling and smoking weed, and you start living the fast life. Parties, hustling, and beef. Nothing like how I was raised. Next thing you know you're selling pills and you're taking them. A year later you're physically sick and dont understand why until someone tells you aye man you're going through withdrawal. Then you go on a program like suboxone but dont stop selling. You find what you believed to be the magic cure of it all. Pure mdma. Life is good, not relapsing on opiates, taking that moon rock and selling it, going to raves, and go to college to become a chemist to make this magical chemical. But then I fail every drug test for my suboxone doctor and they dont understand mdma has helped me spiritually and mentally so they release me. Its thanksgiving and I'm now withdrawing from Suboxone. This is where I got knocked out by the devil. Try some dope you'll feel better. I lived in Camden during the opiate epidemic. Every block in North with 10 dope boys out running up on you to sell you their work. Darkness descends slowly. I was a functioning addict. I always had the money and means so getting clean was extra hard. About 10 rehabs and detoxes later, I meet my best friend. I've been in a relationship with the same female since 17 and at this point she's dancing and I'm selling. We move in with my best friend who also is in addiction. Eventually i become close with everyone in the house and make two more friends I consider family. Eventually I get them two to start dating eachother. One is an addict and the other has never touched a drug a day in his life. They break up and my female best friend leaves my homie. They have a one year old now. Not a month after she leaves, she ODs and dies. Because of my past with drugs everyone had assumed I gave her the drugs that killed her. For two years i am tormented by everyone but my best friend who was her baby dad and their one year old. My girl cheated on me 11 times within a year because she realized oh i can just sell my body and get everything i need. She randomly leaves for rehab one day. Calls me says you have to get better so we can be together. Im not on opiates at this point just xanax from the PTSD, nightmares, and panic attacks. So I go. When I get back I realize I'm deleted from all her social media. She contacts me to let me know she got pregnant with another man while she was in rehab and she is staying with him. After our 10 year anniversary. She deleted herself from my life. I descend again into the void. 3 detoxes later a counselor finally listens to me and gives me a completely different perception of my life. She plays this song and I am crying like a baby. I played this song everyday every hour for almost a whole year. I decided to stay with my homie and help him raise their child. I had already raised my nephew during addiction and put him first. So i knew how to raise a kid. When a child looks at you like you're their super hero and with no judgement it does something to you. I decided to attempt to rekindle my faith in God but my issue wasn't with God it was with humanity. I saw the evil humans were capable of and thought theres no way I'll ever touch that bible because a human wrote it. I know what religion is. Its a weapon and the most potent one at that and i know what humans will do for power and status. My childhood friend introduced me to a Christian apologist. There was one conference a bunch of athiest asked all the questions I would ask and he had an answer for all of them. But specifically about man writing the bible. I then did my own research and dig deep into theology and religion. Only to then realize religion is man made. I found all the answers because of this song. Now the little man is about to be 7, I'm clean 5 years, I bought a house, and I found my faith. I doubt anyone will read all of this but life is crazy. One decision can change the course of your life.
