I would never toss the bill papers. Few years ago the city found some unpaid bill from 2000 , literally saying that my grandpa that died in 2005 didn't paid. They said it in 2022 .... After 22 years . My grandma found the same bill from 2000 and showed that to their face. Every other paper is ok , but the bill ones ,no. And it happened more times that government is making some shit up abt 10+ years old bills .

I would to be able to get 1-2 suitcase and be able to move out. It is so hard “sentiment items” pics of my kids, stuff stuff stuff. I really would lime to get to that point, move out and being able to get the suitcase and walk away, how to do that 😢

I have let so many items sit and collect dust over the years. Some valuable (re: nostalgic) items and some just straight up trash. Being in the technology realm, I hold on to random screws and cables throughout the year. I like this video a lot, thank you! I just moved so I'm ready to declutter and already started that process!

Oh my gosh, the fork thing is fantastic! It really drives home that some things are just in the wrong place and need to move. Equally, the things that don't get a home no matter how hard we try, are a great candidate for getting booted: out of the door!
Thanks so much. This will make me think of a fork lying under the bed.

Adapt to a lifestyle, be thrifty, set a budget, save money, and make investments to live within your means. I benefited from this as a six-figure income. With this strategy, my retirement savings have increased by almost $1 million.

I found out the value of the stuff one keeps when I had to close up my Mom's home in a month.

No one wanted anything of hers. I had to trash most of it.

I lived in a room my space was limited.

This got me thinking of my stuff. Will anyone want it when I DDS?

I asked around in the family and that went south.

Now I have to let go as it no longer has value to anyone.

Your advice is really straightforward and comes with a breakDOWN of how to start and end and to keep up a routine of creating more mess. I found out the other day how frustrating it is how many group items I have in different places and not in one space, also having to dust and clean many items when that chore could be minimised. I have a guitar in a spare room while the case is in my living room?????. So the one room at a time and 10 min process will be useful in going forward.

When thinking about sentimental decluttering, I have a rule : as long as things I inherited or things that were gifted to me make me fuzzy and warm when looking at them, and/or I use them, and/or knowing I own it brings me peace, I get to keep it. That way, I get to keep the stuff that matters to me, and donate the remaining.

I have a lot of hobbies, a lot of stuff I like to do, my interior is NOT minimalistic (I have several dozens of books that have followed me in every single one of my appartments, even the 9m². I just love being surrounded by books and being able to pick up a book I already know and read it. I love being able to recommand books to people and say "hey, I got it, I can lend it to you if you want". I also paint and crochet, and both these hobbies are NOT minimalistic. The important thing about owning a thing or not I find is for me : does it bring me joy, do I use it, does it bring me peace. If I answer yes to at least two of the questions, then it stays. otherwise, it's gone. Sentimental items I don't use do give me peace and joy, so they can stay. The pipe I used to smoke with my grandfather stays, even though I smoke like once every two or three years. The stuff that bring me joy but I don't use and don't bring me peace, such as clothes I like but don't wear, gone.

Hi and thank you for this video. I've just discovered you recently. The spoon/fork example really helped me. I'm an overwhelmed clutterer, but a big part of that is that my things don't have homes. Which makes me more overwhelmed!
The only part of this that doesn't click for me is the, would you trade your peace for this. My peace is so valuable that I wouldn't trade it for anything. Which would leave me with nothing. 😊 All that said, your other tips give me enough structure. Thank you!

Wow. It's taken me a year to find you. I have watched so many "minimalist videos" & they don't help. Funny how their homes echoe! Ugh. I will never be a minimalist, however since the death of my husband I must declutter. It's very difficult, mainly because he was a golf entusist & many things are not only sentimental but valuable. I am trying to forget selling & simply donate. No amount of money can replace the comfort in my own home. Thanks for your advice.

Just discovered your channel today and subscribed. I was searching decluttering, but also there are strong emotions (I'm a widow). I'm at the point where I know (in my head) that looking at his things and crying is unhealthy after this amount of time, but crying at the thought of getting rid of them. When I'm not home and mention his name, I'm fine. A little sad at missing him, but I don't cry in public. It's when I'm home around some of his things that I still have, that I cry. I know I need to get rid of the rest of his clothes, his wallet, etc.. but I need the motivation or good sense, to do it. I know it's past time and I'm ready, but I need to get over that hurdle mentally first. After seeing many channels where they just don't get it, I am really enjoying your channel! You "get" the emotions behind it. I also think I'm the worrier type clutterer. I am so grateful I found your channel.

“Would I trade my inner peace for it?” I’ve been struggling with trying to declutter for over 20 years and I’ve watched more videos and shows, listened to more podcasts, and read more books on the subject than I could ever begin to count, but that question … I felt like an earthquake shook through my whole body when you asked that one question. Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Just … wow!

By the way, I don’t know why I’ve never come across your channel before — well, yes, I do, the stupid algorithm that barfs up videos/channels with the highest views, not necessarily ones that would be most beneficial — but after watching only two of your videos so far, I’ve already gotten several great tips for ways to look at decluttering from angles I’ve never heard anyone else talk about. Things like core values and inner peace. I’ve heard plenty of influencers talk about asking whether an ITEM brings value to my life, but not whether it fits with my personal CORE VALUES. And plenty talk about decluttering to bring more calm into my life, but they’re talking about it from the perspective of calm surroundings, not INNER peace. I’m just now realizing many if the things I’ve been keeping because I thought they brought me JOY have been terrible in terms of inner peace. I’ve stressed about whether I should let them go so many times, they bring me no inner peace at all. None. I never thought about it that way before!

This feels like a real game-changer for me. Thank you! ☀️💛

I have been on my journey since late 2017. I have downsized to the point where excess makes me ill. I can feel the clutter creep in and it almost feels like instant depression. I keep a box located by my door with sign stapled to it. The sign says take if needed. I fill with items that are still usable but needed by me. I leave it by the mail room or in the laundry room in my complex.
