One thing I found best was getting a rescue pup when I moved to Edinburgh. I got my first pup from the Edinburgh Dog & Cat Home (EDCH) but there's also the SSPCA kennels at Balerno a little further car/bus ride out. I had two dogs over 25 years and they helped me meet other people and settle in. Queens Park and Arthurs Seat are dog heaven, but keep to the Ranger's advice there.
In winter buy good waterproof shoes/boots with soles that don't slip on the ice or slush, Fashion isn't everything when you can slip between car and kerb!

Tartare sauce a sickening import. Never never never served in a traditional fish and chip shop.

How long did it take for Zach to become American? I've been here for 43 years and my speech is still 100 % English. Also, Zach's teeth definitely do not originate in Scotland - perfect and frighteningly white. Do tell.

I've been in the UK in the winter. Yes, you get damp, wet, chilled, or soggy. Colorado has almost 300 days of sun a year, so grey skies are kind of blah, but it isn't horrible.
People in the UK are huge supporters of walking.
Buy fleece wear. Fleece shirts, pants, sweaters, sweatshirts, socks, slippers, sheets, blankets,

Love your take on Scottish winters, and don’t forget that Christmas and New Year are central to a North European winters, and during a cool and hopefully snowy season has magic all of its own. Especially for children of course..

I recommend you try a stoov which is a very good alternative to a hot water bottle. All you have to do is charge it and it retains heat for up to eight hours I think. It's not cheap but it's worth it as it keeps me nice and toasty during the cold winter nights.😊

You don't get more British seaside then sitting in a car eating fish chips or an ice cream while it's pelting down outside. That is the life.

The Scots are great at getting fresh fish to the fryer! Trouble is they cook with vegetable oil! In the North of England most chip shops use beef dripping to cook in. If you ever find a chippy that uses beef dripping you will be amazed at how much better it tastes! What you are calling brown sauce we call gravy. Curry sauce is often preferred to gravy. Zach, I have to confess - I'm just like you, I LOVE ketchup and it's my preferred condiment for fish and chips! Great video, new subscriber and love your content! 😍😍😍

Many of the kids activities in Britain cost. Again the poor can't use them.
I suggest you both try cold water swimming 🙂
Cinema, drama and dancing clubs can also be good for kids.
I do recommend 'The Cubs' for under 10 boys and 'The Scouts' for older boys. 'The Brownies' and 'The Girl Guides' are the equivalent for girls. Free or very little cost.

The cost of fish has gone up a LOT...esp for Cod, so much so, that Haddock is the norm in our chippies where I live in north wales as it's a bit cheaper for some reason.
Also, the 'brown sauce' must be a scottish thing (bit like battered Mars bars lol)...around here it's usually salt & vinegar with an optional tub of (very mild) curry sauce or mushy peas. As others have commented, you're also a very lovely couple. Subbed.

Hotwaterbottlegate was hilarious. Just last week, we visited St. Andrew's. (I wanted to visit the Golf museum). We sat for 3 hours just watching the dogs on the beach. I'm from Glasgow and my good lady from Dumfries. No salt 'n' sauce for us. Salt 'n' vinegar! Brilliant guys. As for excercise, I agree. Don't do too much. I've been trying to get fit for months. I'm at 2 press ups a day now. I need to slow down. Thank you for sharing.

If you ever visit Whitby in Yorkshire. The fish and chips are so fresh and delicious. When I was a boy in the 60's we used to have chips with scraps ( Scraps are the little crispy bits of fish and batter. It's the left over bits in the fish fryer. It cost the grand total of 6p old money. 2 1/2 p todays money.

As someone who has tried every sauce and combination of sauce on fish & chips over decades, I will recommend sweet chilli sauce.
For deep fried whitefish such as haddock or cod, sweet chilli sauce is a game changer if you haven't yet tried it.

Regarding the survival in winter stuff, I know some struggle, but for me, unless it gets to -10°C and remains there for prolonged periods, I keep my bedroom window open, I wrap my feet in a sheet and that's it. I'll go walking for miles in my shorts and t-shirt, so as long as I'm in motion I am warm - if I put a hoodie on, even in sub zero, I'll be too hot and sweaty after just 10 minutes.

I've got a family tree that goes back to at least 900ad, and that DNA has had to be very hardy, so dealing with UK winters is no bother at all.

I spend so little on my heating, the hike in inflation doesn't even affect me.
