Asked my family to make this for my birthday and is was unbelievably delicious. Now several other people also want this cake for their birthdays! Soooo goood.
ОтветитьI just spend the afternoon making this for a friend's birthday dinner.... and then I had to throw it away! Thank god I tasted the scraps from trimming the cakes along with the butter cream and jam. To say this thing is too sweet is an understatement. It is nauseatingly sweet. It's unbearable. Then I looked again at the recipe - no wonder: 1.4kg of sugar in the recipe (excluding the natural sugars in an extra 500-800g strawberries. Thats over 3 lbs of sugar in a tiny cake - balanced by only 1/2 teaspoon salt. It looks pretty - it's not edible.

ОтветитьWe made this last night and it was delicious! The helpful baking tips were awesome. We halved the recipe and made just a two tier cake. We used a 9x13 pan and cut bake to 25 mins. I imagine a 7 X 11 pan would have been ideal, but delicious none the less!

ОтветитьSo tried this recipe today and here is my opinion :
First of all don't leave the strawberries too long in the pan mine dried up way too badly they were stone hard. I would also recommend to cook it like 15 min.
And I personally really don't like the frosting. For my taste it's way too sweet. It tastes like eating sugar. Even though I love sweets it really too much for me personally yes but I will update you how it tastes tomorrow 👍
Update : it's not that bad how I feared at first. When the creme is cold before you serve it it tastes just right but when it gets warmer it melts really baldy and doesn't taste as good and way to sweet then

ОтветитьI just wanted to let you know that my ten-year-old son and I made this cake this week for my wife's birthday and it was such a success! Well, actually we had to make a modification because our grocery store was out of strawberries, so we made a raspberry lemonade cake, but everything else was exactly the same. This was the first time we had ever made a cake completely from scratch - no boxed cake mix, pre-made frosting, or artificial flavors. My wife says it's the best cake she's ever had. Thanks so much!
