Funny how we value free will when it favours us but if that free will leads us to hating each other we blame it on god.

The mentality of deflecting your responsibilities will destroy the next generation of Europeans, if not careful. So, it is God's fault that Adam chose to be independent of God by seeking knowledge that will lead to death. God didn't create the world to control it, if he did, we will be humanoids left with no will. The issue now is how we choose to use the will, God will respect everybody's choices. Don't blame God for homosexuality, LGBT Q, drug addiction, beastiality etc and come back to ask 'why'...from God

I love Stephen Fry in many ways, however on this issue, he proves beyond doubt, that Intelligence does Not equate to Wisdom.
Because imo, Wisdom demands ‘nuance’, and Atheism tends to discard it Outright, for if it didn’t, one would Agnostic.

I have a lot of respect for Mr Fry apart from his addictions .
When he and many other of his upper middle class piers were struggling with cocaine and gambling ,many old people were struggling with intruders beating them black and blue and to steal from them all their prized posessions in order to fuel their cocaine habit .This in the UK was common place .Also
I was an extra on a programme called Alfresco .Listening to Fry talking to Robbie Coltrane was fascinating on the bus out to location .
Ben Elton was really nice and thanked me for "saving" a take on a freezing cold day in a field .We all wanted to go home .Oh the joys .

You believe we are the result of cosmic accident with life being meaningless & worthless. How do you call anything evil?

Fry does not understand about what sin did to creation. He also ignores the consequences of free will. He gets to make his comments because God gave us all a free will. When man brought sin into the creation, the consequences included diseases sad as that can be. Fry misses the point that Jesus Christ has brought the solution. Instead of being an angry man shaking his fist at God, he should turn to God, repent and believe in the mercy and grace of God to die in his place, so that he also can live in an eternity with God and without the curses of sin.

Such misconceptions and misunderstandings will lead many people to hell.
This is a corrupt world, it wasn't you or I that corrupted it, it was mankind's free will and choices. It wasn't God, it was us. God gave us every chance to live a great life and help others, some understand that and others blame God for our own sins and corruption.
Either we can try to make it better, or we can make it worse.
Jesus taught to make it better, He IS God in the flesh.
Because of OUR sins, we must have a sacrifice for our sins to be forgiven because sin is so much worse than people realize.
The loving God that we have, chose to become the sacrifice for us. He took ALL of our sins on the cross so that we could be forgiven and that we could spend eternity with Him in heaven.
A man that you don't even know, chose to be crusified for YOU, so that you could grow a relationship with Him forever in heaven.
Imagine if someone took a bullet for you, yet you don't even take the time to try to learn who he is or give thanks, you instead blame him because you fell while he was saving you.. That's Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior in the flesh. He gave His life for us knowing that we are sinners and that many of us won't even bother getting to know the God that created and loves us.

Speaking as a grandfather who lost a grandson at age 5 to cancer, Mr. Fry is wrong. He asserts the misery is not our fault.

This is the core of the problem we face, and the difference between pride and humility. What happens in the world IS OUR FAULT. We are the ones given charge of the world.

If you are asserting that it was not your son's fault, that may be true. But this is a world of cause and effect. Whether God exists or not, we face the environment we create. And cancer is largely man-made.

Humans forget they are the creation, humans forget it was a human who first sinned first for all of man kind after Adam. Stephen Fry is a dork. God isn't evil. God loves you and your family. God allows suffering because humans brought evil into the world through the sinful fall. Suffering is a reminder that our earthly life is Mortal and fleeting, and that we should prioritise knowing Jesus that we might have eternal life in heaven and telling as many people as we can about Jesus that they might have eternal life in heaven also.
