If it’s just a game, how hard is it to do the right thing. To cast our differences and desires aside and live peacefully, equally.

for me Westworld has always been about the battle of both humans and host to gain true free will

Personally, i empathise with William wanting to know if he's capable of true evil.
I would love to know what extremes i would be willing to go to

We want to be like God all knowing and immortal. Then what I'm bored already. Love is all there is all the rest is just dust. The sad thing is God was looking for love when he made us. Like a stupid kid playing with dolls, I will smite them with disasters till they love me. It's fake because a guest could kill another guest before a host could do anything about it. Good Samaritan my ass too funny

Still doesn't make sense how Ford looked at mankind in disgust and simply decided a new species needed to come forth. One that resembles humans in nearly every single way, straight down to the violence. What was the point, what's the difference between humans and the hosts?

You realize that this confirms that AI conscienceness can only come to pass once it has the variety of being both GOOD and EVIL...
...and EVIL being incalculably more intelligent than us doesn't sound like it would be in our best interest...

The thing is just because God knows how things will turn out doesn't take away the agency that Adam and Eve had to choose their destiny. They could choose not to listen to Satan or listen to the warning of God. God didn't pre condition them at all to choose to listen to Satan, just as Lucifer wasn't predestined on purpose to become Satan. He was made a perfect being with free choice. Lucifer himself could choose to rebel against God and claim His laws where bondage to the other angels when he began to desire Christ's position or recognize that these laws ensured the happiness of all. Satan has no reason to rebel, because there is no fault with the laws rather he rebels because he wants what God has. Lucifer knows by then that what he is doing is wrong, but evil as we know it needed to be allowed to fully mature so that the opposite of what happens when sin takes over could be seen, and God would be served out of love instead of fear (which is why God didn't destroy Satan in the first place).

Also Adam and Eve were already made with consciousness. Westworld is a terrible game to live in where these robots were used and abused for the amusement of the guests. They only had an illusion of bliss because their memories kept getting wiped until they realized it. But even then they had tragic backstories that they got programmed with. That's very different from the case of Adam and Eve who were in an environment of true bliss. They had everything good, the only difference was that they didn't experience the consequences of separation from God: hardship, disease, decay, death, murder, wars etc. all the things we hate about the world. Why would God want them to experience that? That was what they were spared from which the devil's temptation opened them to. Adam and Eve weren't gaining knowledge of things that would enrich their lives. They were gaining knowledge of things which would cause them great pain and they were warned about this; however, God gave them the opportunity to choose and overcome the challenge. Eve got tempted, and Adam chose Eve over God.

So there are paralleles between these two stories, but they are reversed here.

S4 SETS UP S5
the Kafka bit of waking up in bed in the trial is still the existential problem teh hosts have .... thing is its existence that is required before essence and essence is thought so it has to be an emergent phenomenon from either a human cortex or a server to exist ... so end game is survival or extinction of which and does either have the responsibility to alter either ???

This is one of the best commentaries I've seen. I only wish there were more commentators the picked up on the fact that there are heavy Gnostic themes in this show. This one veers more towards the biblical, but it is missing the fact that the themes and types of questions being asked in this show are inherently Gnostic.

Unfortunately, William's entire quest for "truth" is based on his own delusions. This is symbolized by his insistence that the Maze is a puzzle for him to solve, when the Maze is not for him, but for the hosts. Thus William bumbles through each season doing monstrous things, all in the name of his misguided quest.

What the fuck? The Man in Black isn't evil. This take. omg. Jonathan Nolan would be so embarrassed that this is what someone got out of his art. Surface level, Evangelical Bible story, yes that is what the writer of the Prestige and Interstellar, was setting out to do with Westworld. 🤦🏿‍♀🤦🏿‍♀😂😂

This makes me think about a story of a white man in the 1930s who dyed his skin black with a black dye that ended causing his death he wanted to feel what it felt like to be treated like a black man in the south which made think that he was looking for something real anything real that what people gave him in their hatred and anger

this whole premise falls apart when you realize that God knows everything as well as giving us free will. he knows what will happen if we make choices. He doesnt know what choice among the choices we will make untill we make it. thus free will. think of it as the multiverse. he sees every choice we could make and the result of those choice from now to forever. but when you add free will, we are free to choose which choice to make.
