Part of legion training involved tackling war chariots. It would be no problem for a Roman legion. Historically wrong movie.

Inappropriate use of testudo. No warrior could leap over a Roman shield-wall. Romans used pila or spears before the gladius was drawn, they also used auxiliaries such as archers and cavalry. Roman infantry fought in disciplined ranks. Their shields were weapons. Unarmoured infantry was not a threat on an open field.

The Testudo tactics work the same way as forming squares in the Napoleonic era did. A great defence against cavalry with all armaments facing oncoming horde. Be they spears, pikes or muskets with bayonets, the results would be the same. Stay in formation and survive, break formation and die.

They're using Testudo like a Fulcum. It works better stationary with supporting elements like light infantry protecting the flanks. Also, spears.

Run??? Probably worst order you can give in such situation. Chariots were not dangerous for disciplined infantry. Thos scythes at the wheels are good mainly as "cooll thing" in movies. Creators of that move surely deserve 10 years in quarry for their crimes on ancient tactics and viewers intelligence.

Too bad they get it all wrong. There's no evidence for blades on chariot wheels. The testudo was rarely used and only then against a fixed fortification.

Another crap Roman film. The uniforms are total rubbish, fibre glass helmets. When oh when are film makers going to use the correct Roman equipment for the era they are filming? Same with Gladiator crap uniforms. The helmets looked like Lobster pot helmets from the English civil war.
