An Analysis of Grand Theft Auto 4

To me i saw niko as more of a perfect fixer. He does the jobs people need him to do but always makes sure that unless they are close friends that they need to pay decently because he is not a chairty. If things become too much drama he threatens to walk off.

I think that people misunderstand the dissonance between the character and the player so often, like no it's never Niko randomly running people over or whatever, it's the player. Niko is a character with a set personality. That doesn't match him.

It's different in TES games (upto and incl Skyrim, haven't played online) where you ARE a blank slate, anything the player does IS ALSO the character doing it, as the character is supposed to represent the player almost directly.

That's not the case for GTA games as they're a different type of an open world game, the narrative is, especially after GTA III, extremely tight, characters are very well defined, and the stories are completely and entirely linear. What you do and what the character does are literally two different things. Basically no, there is no reason Niko would run over civs at random, and canonically he basically doesn't do that. Even stops for Louis in the starting cutscene for that game lol. I feel like as characterizations go he would definitely only kill If necessary, unlike Trevor or Tommy Vercetti for example. Those characters absolutely would kill out of pure evil and with no other motivation

Man, I totally remember when the "The Lost and Damned" PC port released, before it was later updated. The motorcycle mechanics were SO BAD! Literally unplayable until they fixed it. lol

The driving mechanics are fantastic, the ragdoll physics miles ahead of GTA V.

Until 34th minute I was fully agreeing with you on this game, however this game is definetely deep. Not in a mecanic-wise manner, but rather what it is and what it presents. There are a lots and lots of big and small references to movies, places, era and etc that are linked to the game in such way you expect it but not realise, or at least appreciate immidiately. And when you do - wow. It extends game. And that with combination of cold but realistic physics, story and naratives makes this game so special for me

I played it through several times. Maybe becouse not much time to play games. Xbox360, fat joint, snacks, couch, and lets send Niko out to find out what else i didnt know about Liberty City. I heard pc players crying about how painful is to get that game running. Never been an issue to me. Gta4 cd rearly leaves my xbox, and if it does, then next choice is to be Forza Motorsport 4. and back to gta... i know the map so well, i make my own shortcuts to places. I know what mission comes after what. Love to Little Jakob. This character is gaming worlds, my best friend. We would realy enjoy spending time together. Liberty city sometimes feel like a place where Niko might not know that his worlds physics is a computer code.

There is only one think i didnt like about this game after finally getting to play and completing this game and that is to get in the fawking taxi. Its so goddam hard

22, I played it first time this month. I've never heard, seen or watched this game anywhere. It was my first time ever. Played it blind, and it was mastercrafted. Best I've had in a long time.

I disagree on the gun part. Some guns are definitely better than others depending on the situation. I’ve always had to switch between weapons depending on the situation.

TBOGT is the best DLC in this era of GTA. Undead Nightmare still has my heart for the best R* DLC however.

Gta online is probably the most immersive gaming experience ive ever had it has flaws but nothing has made me take on such a bizzarely one to one feeling as that i sometimes forget locations in the map arent real locations in the world and catch myself being like damn being there would be so nice right now it also allows you to take on these identities and practices of your imaginary character that you arent beholden to stick to you can take on different characters moral codes motivations etc. making money in the game feels so rewarding i forget that it has no real purpose other than purchasing things in game. Ive logged so many hours into it and made so many singular unique memories with friends a lot of which come from the strange woozy surreal serendipity of the world and the ai. Just enough to have weight but not enough to prevent you from projecting whatever you want onto it it feels like a simulation of close to total freedom

I honestly feel I like GTA 4's driving purely because the way the car's body moves and shifts as u take sharp turns and the way the tires and engin sounds.

I watched this strictly to hear commentary on the driving mechanics. These were so awful in GTA IV in my opinion, I too ended up just taking a cab to my destination to avoid even having to bother with it.

GTA IV is super political. Especially when it comes to government plants in media acting out false flag terror attacks for social engineering. I couldn't believe it went there. GTA IV is a brilliant piece of social and political satire. It is art.

Best game in the GTA series and one of the best games of all time. The characters, story, tone and atmosphere… I love this game and I loved it ever since I got it on April 29, 2008. I still replay it to this day. I will say due to the war, I don’t believe Niko likes killing. The war made him very cold and while he doesn’t show a lot of moments where he feels bad for killing, he also doesn’t show any emotion of happiness for killing people. He does kill people for money since he knows he can kill certain people for a price. He’s not someone who really wants to kill, but I guess with little going for him upon arriving, he needs money and does what he can to get it, especially with Roman in debt. Thanks for the video man, I only wish I saw this video before now. Keep up the great work!

Turn your settings resolution to 60 to fix the camera angle issues works like a charm cus the game wasn’t meant for anything higher so just switch it to that and it works great

i feel like Niko is also trying to show people that you should be with people you like and people that like you because you don't know when they will not be there anymore because at the end you dont have a choice but to loose a close person to you
