I'm at a bit of a loss... I understand the concept of beatmatching. But this video hasn't helped me in slightest. Everyone is so different in explaining. I understand the pitch but can you explain between the sounds when you touch to slow it down or turn it to make it skip a beat to get it in beat? Hope I'm making sense.. As in if you was mixing with vinyl. which is what I'm starting with 😍.
ОтветитьThanks a ton!!!
Ответитьthat was no joke omg .. crazy
Ответить👍🏽
ОтветитьO M G. Finally a tutorial that gets to the point instead of telling me about next doors cat and stuff I have no interest in Haha. I am 54 and I am learning how to mix as a hobby. Used to Dj in the 80s a little but when it was mainly fading out one track and bringing in another.
Ответитьcheers brother
Ответитьhi
ОтветитьJust making sure I understood this correctly. Use an old track that varies its tempo and then attempt to beatmatch a 4 4 beat modern track to the old track?
ОтветитьHey there I have a little question :D
Wich Pitch Rate do you use?
6 -/+
10-/+
16-/+
I just really started mixing and initially picked up a cd mix 1 from Gumtree for 50 pounds. I decided after a couple of months to upgrade to a cd mix usb for 350 and whilst it's no where near as good as these pioneer decks (because I can't afford them ha) I'm finding these videos very helpful and really interesting.
thanks for taking the time to share your advice man :)
Thank you EllaSkins, Your tutorials are always amazing and have helped so much (and continue to) with my own career. Being a mainly digital DJ (I really like the extra capabilities of the high end controllers) and starting to get some serious bookings I have returned to learn to manual beat match (it's an easy skill with CDJ beatcounters) as it is a fundamental skill to have and I have noticed I am listening harder which means I am hearing my tunes better.
This would be the best tutorial for practising I have seen...Many thanks again for sharing your wealth of knowledge
hey Jonathan love all your tips and vids I need a bit of help I love all my oldskool hardcore most of the new stuff has gone 2 commercial sum of it is good but not much need sum help understanding how 2 mix all the old happy hardcore classics like Scott browns now is the Time so on so on any help will b much appreciated
Ответитьmushing up..
ОтветитьSpin on bro...this one is a big help for those who really wanna know beatmatching. Do you have tutorial on your own style of mashing up bro?
ОтветитьI remember on 1210s I mastered mixing by play one track with the turntable on and the other with the play start not pushed . So I basically use to get the speed using my hand as the motor then master keeping it in . It was a good trick to learn .Another was play a live tape and mix 2 toons to that tape as best you could .always push boundaries and exercise the brain .but I do remember entering the worst nightclub ever in dover and it was massive and had no monitor speakers and pure bass coming from under a hollow stage and vibration was pumping through my feet and the main speakers were dotted around the club so far away I was getting the worst time lapse ever and I clanged the hell out of mixes and that smashed my confidence being young and wasn't till you play a descent venue you realise it was not realy down to me .still have nightmares about that 25 yrs back . Jumped up played someone else's set because they were ill as a favour and didn't know none of the toons no light in the booth all the buttons had been stolen I mean all. Anything that come off a cross fader that was selataped to the middle. I think that guy pulled a sick one thinking about it. But you learn i use to take extra slipmatts, own needles, mini torch and a mini lamp that clipped to my record bag .never go unprepared now and even try to check a venue beforehand. Even ask other djs who have played there if possible. But I was so confident and did I get knocked on my backside that horrible night.
ОтветитьI beatmatch using a hotcue, which is set on the first beat. I start the incoming track and compare the speed of the incoming track with the outgoing track. I the adjust the pitch. Then I restart the incoming track using my hotcue and repeat the beatmatching process till it's right. I am satisfied when the beats are aligned for a minimum of 8 bars.
For me this works. However, sometimes you still have to adjust some when doing the transition (just as mentioned in this video).
Any comments on this way of beatmatching?
good
ОтветитьSync and BeatGrid is the truth
Ответитьi think the guy asked why ellaskins doesn't go to tomorrowland along with dj's like david guetta, etc.
Ответитьwhat was the comeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeent ?
Ответитьwho the hell is bert?
ОтветитьFunny enough before this I was watching his tutorial: "How to beat mix , without touching the platter" from 2006. /watch?v=7zC5W5vfW2o&list=TLA-9vshvEOH0 same concept. 7 years ago.
Ответитьhe has a HD cam, its his internet that's slow so he cant upload HD!
Ответитьi like his clips but he needs a hd cam to see wat he does better!!
Ответитьthe coolest DJ ever.
ОтветитьYou're right about the pitch drift on modern kit....my old denon dns3500 would fluctuate +\- 0.2 it was a right PIA.
ОтветитьYou are an excellent Dj and teacher!
Ответитьexcellent excellent lesson. you made it so simple. great teacher.
ОтветитьCan we all just take a moment and agree that ellaskins is the greatest thing that's happened to DJing since... well I don't know, but without him I would still be back doing nothing but cross-fading between tracks with the occasional loop. You're the man, and your passion is amazing!
Ответить@ ellasskins love your channel & thanks for all the vids. iv found them to be really useful. take care mr......;-)))
ОтветитьOkay but the thing here is, both of the songs started directly with the beat/kick, how do master this when one song starts calm non-beat/kick?
Ответитьfor me its way, way easier on Technics.
Ответить@ellaskins first iwant to say I enjoy your videos and that they help me learn alot of new and kool tips/techniques and I want to thank u for putting these tuts together. I managed to get my hands on a pair of minty technics 1210's...BUT one of them has a major problem that makes beat matching impossible. when I move the pitch slider on the turntable the speed fluctuates, iread that some people call it wobbling pitch. My ? Is have you experienced this or know what could be causing the problem?
ОтветитьGreat Vid Thanks
ОтветитьHope you washed you're hands after the craper!! ;-)
ОтветитьThere's plenty of DJs that don't know how to beat match or aren't quitee advanced enough in their beat matching to ride the pitch through an entire mix and keep two tracks with a human drummer. Controllerists are considered DJs and very few of them know how to beat match, many of them might know the theory ehind it but have never done it. By the way if you had actually read the comment i said that many djs underestimate the importance of the skill and rush into their first gig unprepared.
ОтветитьMy sincerest apologies!
ОтветитьThis gets 10x harder when you take it to a non-digital pitch-fader, for e.g. on standard Technics! Even after a romantic evening in with a multi-meter, my Technics' pitches still aren't perfect... nor symmetrical!
ОтветитьBeat matching is a core DJ skill I learnt from the very start. This video explains it very well. There are loads of tracks out there with jumpy bpms u need these tricks to stay on top of em.
ОтветитьLol, u said tomorrowland. Mainstream bullshit with just a bunch of fireworks and some acting....oh and there is some music maybe...
Ответитьdick got stuck in the fan
Ответитьi love beat matching, its just a real skill
ОтветитьOh thank you masterful one :) love these tutorials soooo much and extremely helpful :)
Ответитьyou mean he killed all the sync DJs...
Ответитьwas joking yo
Ответитьwhen i use controllers and serato i only use the sync if i need to quick match tempo, but i still line up beats by ear.
Ответитьbecause tomorrowland is a mainstream festival.
ОтветитьThat's what we call beatmatching ;)
