The first rule should be never scoop the mids if using a Pbass.
ОтветитьNice. You need to do one with Active Bass. 😎
ОтветитьIm new to bass playing. U only talked about the bass and treble. What does mids do? I play in a funk band. So how do i set them? Love the sound marcus miller gets from his bass
Ответитьhappy birthday and merry Christmas Scott,
love your personality and your little jokes. But there is a Butt.... For someone with ADD its so hard to keep watching when there is an overload of random chat. I feel bad saying this but being honest I watched your video to learn about eq settings not about the strangeness that you own a red Christmas tree. I really appreciate and enjoy your videos and you've taught me a lot but please no Christmas any more and the only lights I wanna see sparkling are the eq settings.
Say hi to John for me will ya been awhile since we had a shrimp on BBQ.
Scott! I dialed you in to see the amp, mate! And you’re getting into a car? I’m an American. Don’t you realize how short our attention spans are? But Americans are also team players so I watched it to the end and was glad I did!
Ответить💥💥💥💥💥
ОтветитьI noticed there is no Gain control on that amp. I use the ones on my amps to make sure I'm sending the cleanest strongest signal to the power section for it to amplify. Why doesn't he have a gain adjustment on it or did I just miss it? And is that a passive/active toggle above the input?
ОтветитьWhat about active bass electronics (EQ)? Parametric pedals? Are these preferable in terms of adjustments instead on amp-based EQ?

ОтветитьFUNNY STORY! I played with some guys in Fort Walton Beach Florida a little over a year ago. I took my Ampeg rig but they said they already had an SVT4 amp in the space. So I plugged in and set everything flat on the EQ as I normally do. The guy who owns the house kept throwing out a bass player's name (Brian) who would come to the same space and play. After two weeks of going to this place and seeing how the EQ was set on the amp, I said to everyone, who in the world sets their EQ like this? So I heard the last name (Marshall). Brian Marshall, who's this? I look his name up on Wikipedia. Turns out to be Creed/Alter Bridge bassist Brian Marshall. Lots of variables when setting your bass EQ.
ОтветитьI find the more someone is obsessed with "their tone" and "gear" the less creative and or skilled they are. I used to get people coming up to me after every single show i played telling me how great i was, how i carried the band, and i played with my eq all flat and with zero pedals, a $800 bass and a bottom line ampeg amp thru a 15 and two 10s. Its always first about how you play the instrument, and not necessarily all about skill either, its about being creative and knowing what sounds good or bad - thats about 85% of everything, the other 15% is about 10% stage presence and 5% "your tone". The sound engineer has more to do with your tone than you do, cuz he controls whether people can hear you at all.
ОтветитьGain n master settings?
ОтветитьTone a combination of some of the following..
How you play the strings, and where on the string they are played.
The selection of pickups on the guitar and the tone settings on the bass.
The gain and eq on the amp.
The selection of speakers.
The size of the room,
The eq if the p.a.
I just became a bassist from an acoustic guitar, this is nice, hope it helps me get a better tone
ОтветитьYou definitely shouldn't eq until the full band is playing. Anything that sounds good solo'd will sound crap in the mix. I'm at a point now where I just do a subtractive eq instead of boosting anything. Set everything flat then walk up the neck playing notes. Anything that's booming because of the room, just find that frequency and cut it.
ОтветитьI love ur video, pls I need a sound card
ОтветитьGuiiar player here trying to get proficient on bass. I really appeciate this video. I use my Headrush amp/cab sims for my recordings. Can't afford a live rig right now. So I am so happy to see the amp is setup flat. I do the same with my mini-rectifier for my guitar. Start flat and then minor adjustments to the eq. I prefer that because I use a para or graphic eq to dial in my tone in the signal chain.
The only thing I wish you would have gone over is how you set your eq on your instrument. My bass (Ibanez SR type) has a 3band eq. Do you approach the eq the same way on your bass?
I quit watching 4 mins in...just saying
ОтветитьMy default is low/bass at 1 o'clock, low-mids at 3 o'clock, and everything else flat. Gives me that classic '70s beefy p-bass tone.
ОтветитьI love the look of the Vanderkley cabs! Wish I could get them in the States at a reasonable price (shipping from Europe is way expensive).
ОтветитьHome EQ versus live band EQ is what I'm going over with one of my students today. Hopefully he listens
ОтветитьNever set your EQ without your band. What sounds great in isolation NEVER works with a band. Mine sounds awful in isolation but thunderous with the band.
ОтветитьCame to learn about EQ but instead got dudes life story and crap about a cat and a house. STICK TO THE TITLE.
ОтветитьSimple but not very orthodox: just tweak it until it just hits you the right way, and leave it there or mark it
ОтветитьScott, you gonna laugh, but... Your red headcover , i mean that cap, doing pretty EQ too. Right on your ears 🙂
ОтветитьI have always found, that the bass EQ was properly adjusted, when the girls in the metal chairs smiled!
Ответитьas a mixing engineer and bass player I wholeheartedly agree.. settings flat - amps are designed by experts in controlled conditions to engineer the best sound quality at the flat setting.. use your tone settings on your bass to dial in your sound
ОтветитьGreat - new bass player here. Thanks for the info on set up. Where do you leave the dials on the bass guitar in the middle?
ОтветитьThank you Scott 🙏
Ответить300 watt bass amp vs a 100 watt guitar amp? I think someone wants to drown out six strings lol.
ОтветитьHow can I equalize my amp to play reggae?
ОтветитьWho is watching this on a day you got a new bass amp. I know i am...
Ответитьwhile i love what you do i think instead of talking about christmas trees or anything else for 10 mins of a 16 min video you should get straight to the point. That way the valuable experiences you are teaching are gonna be more accessable.
ОтветитьActually if you want to hear your bass in the mix, the best thing you can do is filter out the low sounds coming from the keyboard and guitar. Just don't tell them or they'll object !
ОтветитьWhy cant you just show whats in the title? Instead of making a 16 min video talking but not saying anything?
ОтветитьI feel that this guy is just a show off.....show us your big new house, tell us how great you are and send me emails every day with ‘Scott’s bass lessons’. Talk about it all for ages then finally get round to showing us why we clicked the link to start with. Waste of time.
Ответитьreally nice!
Ответитьnever made a demo with Precission Bass, Why? only have mid frequencies, please made with Jazz Bass or similar
and please talk about the amps ......
Each amp has a character, the flat setting gives that “designed” character. Always done the (basic) tone setup fairly much as you do here. Though, will then move on from there for different styles that need different emphasis.
ОтветитьThis guy talks entirely TOO MUCH. How much time does it takes to say run your EQ flat, then tweak it from there. Don't want to hear about his students and his inner thoughts. Whew!
ОтветитьWhy are people complaining so much about talk at the beginning of the video. Just queue the video to what you want to hear and stop complaining about getting free lessons! You put way more effort into typing a complaint than it would be to simply wait or fast forward. A holes! Geez!
ОтветитьA snadge is my happy place, thanks scott
