Except it’s not slang. It’s Scot’s which is a recognised language. Did Burns write in slang ?

It's not "slang" FFS, it's an actual language. Calling Scots a slang version of English is like calling Norwegian a slang version of Swedish or Spanish a slang version of Italian.

"Wee bit" is common here in the US as is "rank" (mostly to do with bad smells, though).

The Irish are the friendly drunks. The Scots are the angry drunks. They're the only group of people who have a hard liquor named after them. Yet they still produced genius like David Hume and Andrew Carnegie

Some of these words and phrases like 'Ah dinnae ken' aren't 'slang'. They are words and phrases in the Scots language. Calling them slang isn't very respectful to the folk still speaking the language of Burns despite facing prejudice and discrimination and sometimes having been beaten by teachers just because they were speaking their mother tongue (many people who went to school before the 80s). It's incredible how, if you tell a people their language is worthless and not even a language but slang or uneducated speech for long enough, they start to believe those negative things and perpetuate them themselves.

The fact that I live in France probably explains why.
