The great naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913), co-discoverer with Charles Darwin of the theory of evolution by natural selection, was born in Usk, Wales in January 1823. On Saturday 6th November 2021 a bust of him aged 25, was unveiled in Usk town square by British Comedian and Wallace aficionado Bill Bailey. The Usk Civic Society organised the project and Usk resident Felicity Crawley sculpted the bust. Speakers at the unveiling ceremony were (in order): Tony Kear (President of the Civic Society), Dr George Beccaloni (Director of the Wallace Correspondence Project/Chairman of the Wallace Memorial Fund); and Bill Bailey (Patron of the Wallace Correspondence Project & Wallace Memorial Fund). Bill's excellent speech can be seen 17 minutes into the video. The video was filmed by Janet Beccaloni and edited by Kane Durrant & James Marin.
