The truth of the battle for the Golan is that the Syrians could have won it...The failure of the Syrian forces was due basically to a poor strategic plan by its senior High command that disregarded the Soviet advice to attack from the start with concentrated armoured divisions at key points along the 1967 ceasefire lines and only then using their infantry brigades to penetrate the key gaps..They did the reverse...They also threw away part of the original plan to use Syrian commandos delivered by Helicopters to cut the bridges on the River Jordan to stop tactical resupply of reserves...This would prove vital in the actual fighting as the Syrians came very close despite these flaws to defeating the 7th Armoured forces who came within minutes of withdrawal on the fighting on the Ridge, they also did take the Southern half of Golan and at one point the River Jordan was at their mercy when a silly ceasefire agreed by Assad and his senior commanders took the momentum out of them..Assad and his senior command started to lose interest in the offensive and were holding back keeping armoured forces in reserve, an Iraqi counter assault negated the later Israeli counter assault..The Syrian command had listened to the Soviet advisors at the planning stage and followed their advice on the battlefield..

Good video and very well thought out, but Syria did not have MiG 23s in the Yom Kippur War. MiG 21 planes formed the backbone of the air force in Syria in those years.
