I think the best thing about some of the survival mechanics is that they encourage you to experiment. In Skyrim, for example, various food items impart temporary buffs, but you don't need to eat in that game. Thus, a lot of players probably won't bother to use food. In Outward, the fact that you must eat means that you'll quickly learn what types of food provide useful buffs given your build and your current goals.
The lack of a leveling system means that you don't feel any pressure to kill everything in sight. Sometimes, it's best to just bypass some enemies and wildlife. The only real reasons to kill anything is when quests require it, if you can't avoid combat, or if you want/need whatever loot might be obtained from the fight. The only grind is for cash.
Gameplay in general feels very well thought out.
like so many shitty games out there ... nope this one is a shitfest on it's own genre. Buy this if you are one of those mentally ill people that play or played minecraft while there were better made games out there. I'd recommend Risen or Forsaken Gods before this
ОтветитьI Play it solo over 80 hours and i had a Lot of fun!
ОтветитьMy problem with the game is how shallow it is.
All of those survival mechanics, temperature, food, thirst, darkness, all of these only affect you. Additionally I wholly disagree that the game is difficult. If you are willing to carry an endless supply of traps (that npcs will never avoid because they have essentially no real AI) all fights are a joke. So the only real bar for difficulty is how much tedium you're willing to put up with. Combat is relatively spammy and janky often needing to just face tank hits when against multiple opponents.
For the story missions there is no player choice and all the factions more or less play out the same. There is the additional tedium of running everywhere, which doesn't have to be a bad thing, but given that most places have very little reason to be explored (other a few paltry things of loot, never any background story or anything interesting) it ends up just being a shift + w simulator. Also enemies can't catch you on foot, so you can just ignore them as well.
All in all, it's a super mediocre experience. I say this, also having had 100+ hours. It's not worth those 100+ hours. It's barely worth 5-10, which is how much actual gameplay is in the game. Just stretched out to the extreme.
"It spits on your hand and gives you a map" hahahahaha
ОтветитьIf they used all the time that they wasted developing survival mechanics to improve the combat system
, it would've been a much better game.
Honestly, if you're into that kind of tamagochi shit, just install survival mods for Skyrim. It would give you much more enjoyment.
10 people? What? 😱
ОтветитьThey made a really beautiful game coming from a very small team of developers. Big respect!
ОтветитьI just picked this game up 2 weeks ago and i have over 70 hours played. It is hands down a hidden Gem. quickly becoming one of my favorite games ive ever played.
ОтветитьThis is a hidden Gem among a sea of shit its unreal how good this game is. I also have near 100hours played and im still not bored. Perfect review of the game.
ОтветитьSaw this game on sale in the PSstore It went looking for a review, and found IGN's. Seem pretty shallow and unfair so I went to the next one. And you just delivered. Had to throw you a describe after that hilarious shot at them 🤣🤣🤣
Ответитьpeople not liking this game is either..
a strictly FPS gamer
and PEOPLE WHO CAN'T COPE UP WITH HARD DIFFICULTY
For casuals just invest money for a lot of traps.. 😁😁😁
ОтветитьGuys i am looking for a co-op partner to play with on Pc , someone interested?
ОтветитьI hope we see the best of outward in a future AAA rpg and then some
ОтветитьThis game looks really great, I can't wait to get lost in it
ОтветитьIt's only 12 bucks on steam right now. I think I'll pick it up.
ОтветитьAlmost three years later and I'm still playing... So many different character builds and plot lines to follow. Just a fantastic game.
ОтветитьMad respect for a team of ten to have produced this. I've been playing it for a bit of time and yes it feels dated but it has it's charm. The only thing I have issue with is why... why do they not include the basic ability to JUMP! On a psychological level its a need for most players even if it does nothing to aid in combat, it's just nice to do. A lot of sleeping in this game to recover your health as I haven't gotten very strong yet nor learn magic...if that would help, I don't know as I'm learning as I go by trial and error. Managing food and water doesn't help a lot either. Also, big learning curve with combat but the longer you survive the better your confidence in playing gets. The good thing is you don't really get killed but you end up getting captured, enslaved, or rescued and then have a chance to escape and recover some of your items. Upgrading armor and weapons is key obviously, but range weapons and traps are your best friend when first starting out playing, having a strategy oh and running away like a coward when overwhelmed is important, however aggro can be hard to break so run far for your life. Item management is real challenging when your trying to save items to make things later especially if you get kicked out of your home and have to hit the streets.... I live under a bridge now, in a tent like a homeless person with bags. With the intent of this game I feel they need to tweak the merchant pricing and make items that pertain to that merchant's craft more valuable to sell there. I feel the merchants can enhance the immersion better if they did that, after all, items that you craft shouldn't be worth less than the materials that went into it. Overall I still think it was worth buying, but there is much to improve. It is if anything challenging to survive and grow in this game. The intent is to create an epic journey for the player and I think it does just that.
ОтветитьPeople put way too much emphasis on graphics. Yes, obviously I preferr my games to look fantastic like anybody out there, but I also understand that good narrative, good game mechanics, a world that doesn't feel empty or dead, and so many other things, are all more important than top-tier photorealistic graphics.
I'd never turn down a game just because it didn't have top of the line graphics, and I would much sooner turn down a game for having shallow (or total lack of) narrative, storytelling, believable/relatable characters, good game mechanics, etc. etc.
Graphics aren't everything. Don't turn down a game just because it isn't visually perfect. Some of the best games out there are indie games that aren't perfect, graphically, and you don't wanna miss out on those gems!
Just picked this game up on sale for ps4 and so far I’m enjoying it
ОтветитьMy fav is Abrassar ambient, its a real banger, perfectly fitting it's place.
P.S. Tsar stuff really rocks!
And it’s fucking splitscreen in case no one knew 🤩
Ответить"If you like female Putin stop watchin this shit and buy the game"
Subscribed. :D
That's how I feel about monster hunter rise dont like hearing my character talk way too much
ОтветитьOutward is amazing i hope they make a second game with a bigger openworld but same mechanics with the bagpack and rpg stuff. But refined and upgraded abd expanded in all areas
ОтветитьBought this game a couple months ago and couldn't really get into it. I don't think I gave it a fair shot, I just wasn't in the mood for this type of game at that moment but I'm getting an itch for it now.
ОтветитьGod I love this game that I uninstalled 2 times
Ответитьbought it at release, I was too stubborn at this time. Now coming back with two DLCs and I´m all in!
ОтветитьI was worried about the sound effects and sound design damn, the moment you drop that soundtrack, it's only twelve bucks right now
ОтветитьI Miss playing Multiplayer in Outward.
Like REALLY miss it.
Crazy how i played this when the ByeBye Bag bug was still a Problem.
Very shit game. You make it look WAY better than it is. The traveling is fucking pure pain and automatically makes this unplayable.
ОтветитьJust bought this for 10 bucks on sale for xbox SX, and I love it! I remember watching this review years ago and wanting to play it but never getting around to it. Now that I have, I love it! Playing co-op with a friend is the way to go. I really hope to see more from this team cuz you can really see the passion for rpg’s in this game. Thanks for opening me up to all these great games!
ОтветитьI remember this getting pretty low reviews back in the day, and that kept me from getting it. It's actually still $40 on PS, so that's not...... Great. If it goes on sale I'll pick it up, but even with the bundle that has both DLC's it's MORE expensive than buying them individually since they're on sale, but somehow the base game isn't.
ОтветитьLooks similar to gothic games. Is it?
ОтветитьStill one of my favorite games, ever. The Outward soundtrack is 1-A amazing, especially for such a small studio. Never gets old
ОтветитьSo happy that you reviewed this game! discovered it today and really loved it! thanks my man
ОтветитьThat sound track remembered me of Chrono Cross
ОтветитьThat face looks like it came from 2006- see: TES IV Oblivion.
ОтветитьIts made by a French canadian team and it is Coop Remote play on Steam, Which means you can play with a friend on steam with only 1 of the 2 having to buy it.
Ответитьif for some reason anyone is watching this in 2022 before may 12th, the complete bundle is about 70% off $20, and the game itself is $10
ОтветитьI’m Sad Bc He Didn’t Mention The Fourth Faction.. Sorobor Academy.. 🥺
ОтветитьI'm a super RPG player, but Outward was tough, so tough, this game could be so much better I don't know why the devs failed so hard.
Ответитьi need files save game
Ответитьthey need 2 implement the cool animations and free movement of dragons dogma in this game!! jumping, running fast, climbing houses and climbing big monsters, sheathing weapons and 2 diffrent weapon slots for a range and melee weapon so that you can equip both a bow and a sword/dagger/mace!! and it shuld be seen on the characters back if unequiped!! and have leather straps buckles around shoulder/waist for weapon sheathing not just floaty weapon on back. And the monsters need better AI like dark souls. Oh and also PvP shuld be in the game.
ОтветитьDefinitely one to play in coop, especially during travel and exploration, but I thoroughly enjoyed this game. Idk if it's still compatible, but I had a mod (I cannot remember for the life of me what it was called tho) which allowed for more players to join and automatically adjusted the difficulty (which could be manually tweaked in-depth) and it made the game infinitely more enjoyable. After installing the mod I predominantly played with a party of 3-4 people.
I still think the game would really benefit from having a mount system tho. In saying all this tho, it was my most played game of 2022 by far, according to my steam recap.
If this game did not had Hungary thirsty etc it would be more famous
Ответитьremindes me of piranha bytes games like gothic and risen
Ответить
