The video that for now, saved my subscribership.
ОтветитьHey Thomas, loved the video but I have a question about your metering:
You spot metered for the highlights and then compensated rather than the shadows, is there any particular reason you chose to do it this way? I was under the impression that highlight latitude is generally good and that portra itself has a huge latitude for overexposure. Does the exposing for highlights with film give a better balanced image?
Apologies if you’ve already answered this! I’m still on a journey of learning and so any information would be useful :-)
All the best
Al
Absolutely fantastic Thomas! I guess I'll go with porta 160 too on mx next phototrip to get this pastely vibe.
Do you get your scans as jpegs or always work in tiff when editing your film photography in photoshop?
Cheers and greetings from switzerland!
I like the context given by the people on the beach, the contrast between the red jacket and the moving yellow jacketed person gives the picture an impressionist painting feel. Different but pleasing. Keep up the good work .
ОтветитьLove the simplicity of the first photo and the activity in the last great stuff
ОтветитьGod is a pro photographer and artist. And I believe, gets a kick out of making us work for that perfect photo.
ОтветитьReally enjoy that video. Tnam=nk you for sharing.
ОтветитьI love all the photos and colors in this series. I especially love the one with the people. I've been watching your channel for years and have always appreciated not seeing man made objects or people but for some reason this one really feels good.
ОтветитьI like it. No need to talk in front of the camera. Beautiful pictures as always. Cheers!
ОтветитьI kind of liked the people walking through your view
ОтветитьPosition, Perspective, and Context.
Ответитьhi Thomas!
this new direction is great, i enjoyed this video thoroughly and loved the composition with humans enjoying their lives on the beach. They add to the story! Keep it up :)
When the man with the dog passes on the beach, that would have been a good opportunity for a good shot. You had a subject, natural, unaware he is being shot, think it would have looked good. Looked good in the video anyway.
ОтветитьThanks buddy. Always been a fan of you. Signed up with Sqarespace just so I can support!
ОтветитьI assume that you bring two tripods every time you go out to get such a variety of angles for your footages - 10/10 for effort! Very enjoyable to watch, as usual :)
ОтветитьAbsolutely love your first mage.
ОтветитьBeautiful for sure
ОтветитьBeautiful images! But the people on the beach might have resulted in a great image as well
ОтветитьI think single people/couples with dogs, etc. work better in these kinds of shots rather than groups of people. I think you missed your chance in the earlier shots with the women walking across the scene, her reflection looked great.
ОтветитьHi Thomas. Long-time viewer, first time comment.... inspired by much of your photography esp. the minimalist seascapes but like yourself I felt the last image, which included the people, added to the atmosphere of the shot. A solitary figure on an otherwise empty beach can have quite an impact.
ОтветитьThanks for sharing your experiences.
ОтветитьThomas great images, I was wondering how you process from Porta neg to digital image? Your tripod of choice? I use manfrotto be free. How often do you use neg film and hassleblad? Was it 80mm lense?
ОтветитьYour composition today was my favorite location and condition ... tide pools low tide after a storm.
ОтветитьNice video and I just love the square format.
ОтветитьWhich lens are you using on the Hasselblad?
ОтветитьWas für ein Weichei, aber ein herausragender Fotograf und charmanter b-roll Videograf. Thank you Thomas for a new inspiration.
ОтветитьBeautiful!!! Lovely serene. Elegant vibe!
ОтветитьFinland supports you Thomas.
Ответитьlove the pastel images Thomas, and the narration too. I just didn't see that composition ing the life ring but it really worked! Thank you.
ОтветитьI have to laugh that you hate talking to the camera while there's people around and yet as I watch this - there is over 55 000 views! Hahahah. Me . . sneaks off away from family to record a video with voice input. I so get that!
ОтветитьI love my F-stop bags too
ОтветитьFor e the life ring was the best!
ОтветитьI see you using the go pro again. Just like the beginning. I like it.
ОтветитьHow are you scanning your film?
ОтветитьLove the life ring.
ОтветитьSorry, I got to the video late, but it's good to see you.
As for the images, WOW! composed very beautifully, loved every image, but my favorite was the last beach picture with people in it, Best.
Watched twice. Love your composition & artistic process shared with honesty. Even the editing is pastel. Human way, like Adam’s.
ОтветитьI’ve re subscribed to your channel.....you have seemed to move away from the usual pro photographer style of video. With the photographers you used to film with, everyone was doing the same old thing. Love the honesty that seems to be trickling through. Keep it up. As an older photographer from the UK (now in Australia) nice to see your involvement with film.
ОтветитьThis was awesome, I'm a little surprised you didn't shoot that curved cloud in the sky on the second day. First days storm cloud was awesome. 😎
ОтветитьLove u sir❤️❤️
Sir what are the values of the profile you use to capture photos?
.
Those Videos with a Film Camera are getting quiet Boring and Repetetive. How about using a Digital Camera again?
ОтветитьWe watch ALL your videos - every Sunday. It's "MUST SEE TV!!". You don't have to EVER apologize for doing your style or liking what you like. You do you!!! We ALL appreciate it!! Even if it's not what we shoot, it's great to get the perspectives of ALL artists! Keep up the great work!!! Patty
Ответить"Waiting for the coast to be clear" hahah - brilliant. Probably the first time I've heard that one used 100% accurately.
ОтветитьNothing wrong with odd balls Thomas, remember, 'be yourself - everyone else is taken' ;) PS: I'm up in sunny Northumberland, how's the rain down there?
ОтветитьThis was such a cool video mate! I’ve also been out shooting landscapes with Portra 160, this has inspired me even more, hope you’re doing well
ОтветитьSuch a simple but stunning first image. I loved the simplicity of it but it but sometimes, keep it simple is the best way.
Ответитьmaybe we photographers are all oddballs :-)
