Jordan is the 🐐.
6-0 in the Finals.
He took 1.5 years off after his father was murdered and came back to win three more rings, idk why people forget that...
Played game five in 1997 with food poisoning or being hung over, whatever you wanna call it and scored 38 points. Dropping a three pointer in the final minute to give Chicago a lead we would not lose.
“Probably the most difficult thing I’ve ever done,” Jordan said afterward. “I almost played myself into passing out just to win a basketball game.” Not just any game, though — a Finals game. Said Bulls coach Phil Jackson: “This was a heroic effort, one to add to the collection of efforts that make up his legend.”

Stop with the milkman reference, it's terrible. They didn't make the money like they do today, like most athletes they had another job. The average player is only 1 inch taller today. 11 of 13 is pretty dominant. I've seen plenty of stacked teams in my life not win, even to big dogs. They changed the rules to stop Wilt and help Jordan.

2× NBA champion (1994, 1995)
2× NBA Finals MVP (1994, 1995)
NBA Most Valuable Player (1994)
12× NBA All-Star (1985–1990, 1992–1997)
6× All-NBA First Team (1987–1989, 1993, 1994, 1997)
3× All-NBA Second Team (1986, 1990, 1996)
3× All-NBA Third Team (1991, 1995, 1999)
2× NBA Defensive Player of the Year (1993, 1994)
5× NBA All-Defensive First Team (1987, 1988, 1990, 1993, 1994)
4× NBA All-Defensive Second Team (1985, 1991, 1996, 1997)
NBA All-Rookie First Team (1985)
IBM Award (1993)
2× NBA rebounding leader (1989, 1990)
3× NBA blocks leader (1990, 1991, 1993)
Still leads league in blocks. One of the best two way players

There’s A LOT that statistics don’t measure
-Clutch
-Leadership
-Timing (crucial plays at crucial moments... not always the same as clutch)
-Teamwork (elevating teammates)
-🏀 iQ
-Hustle

Ответить
@mungfam
@mungfam - 22.12.2023 11:07

🏀 I’m going to list the top 5 goats in order, in their prime, but also they would be the best 5 on the court, second to none:
1. Bird (nobody ticks this many boxes, it’s true & you know it)
2. Wilt (could play in any era flawlessly & athletically)
3. MJ (amazing player)
4. Magic (changed the game, IQ almost as good as Bird’s)
5. Duncan (he changes a team in any era, leadership, stoic, focused…)

These are all so close in my opinion & not a lot separates them from so many others, but no other combination of players can beat this combo with 21 rings. We can argue a lot, but not this, fax. Coincidentally the 1-5 represents their ranking imho, but also the position I’d play these guys on a super team (1–Point guard; 2–Shooting guard; 3– Small forward; 4–Power forward; 5–Center). 😅

The 3 things these folks have above all else is, game IQ, leadership, ability to rise to the occasion (post season, clutch).

All you really need to know is this.

"If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save a game I'd choose Michael Jordan," Pat Riley said. "If I had to choose a player to take a shot to save my life... I'd take Larry Bird."

Putting an asterisk on three point shooting for 80’s players is unfair.

Almost everyone in that era wasn’t crazy in that range and only Bird came close to relying on that range.

the modern nba fan seems lost to me-- go and celebrate a guy who jacks up a 30 footer with 12 seconds on the shot clock-that is foolish hero ball--even if it goes in- and that has hurt the quality of play league-wide. If you want to see some real ball-pull up 80s celtics v. Dr. Js Sixers or Magic's Lakers, or Olajuwon's Rockets--BIG BOY BALL. Rather than ask if the 80s legends could play in today's game (today's players seem to struggle themselves with that!), ask if today's stars could play in the 80s--a little more physical back then, for sure, and Bird would lead the league in minutes played more than once through injuries guys wouldn't consider playing through today, and dominate while doing it. So yeah, Bird could compete today. I wish fans would educate themselves before humiliating themselves.

@nathanrobinson3653
@nathanrobinson3653 - 04.12.2023 00:51

Total nonsense-Absurd- you say no one would want Bird's numbers of 24-10-6 averages for a career--well, no one else has them in the history of the league so I guess you got your wish! Bird's CAREER statline of 24.6--10--6.5--1.7--0.8 (pts. reb. ast. stl. blk) is UNMATCHED--this is fact. Jordan ranks 110th in career defensive rating--Bird is 61st. Larry Bird is a better overall defender than Jordan--that is what that stat means. So tell me how slow he is and can't jump while grabbing 10 reb/game as a small forward for a career--same as superstar center Shaquille O'neal!!. I like to back up my argument for GOAT with facts, truth, and stats--not who won the most championships, or who is the flashiest dunker, who took the most shots, or the best shoe salesman. I believe GOAT means All-Time, All-Around Best Player, all aspects of the game should be considered--scoring, rebounding, assisting, stealing, and blocking, defense, and career win % (it's all about winning). When you look at the major stats for a career (pts, reb, ast, stl, and blk PER GAME), plus Overall Defensive Rating, and Career win %, and look where Bird ranks on the all-time list for those stats/metrics, add them up and the LOWER the number, the BETTER the all-around player. Bird is 20th in pts, 54th in rebounds, 47th in assists, 38th in steals, 217th in blocks, 61st in overall defensive rating, and 2nd in win %. Add those ranking's numbers up, and his number is 439--besting all the others (Jordan, Magic, Lebron, Curry, etc). In most cases, it isn't even close!! Jordan alone, because he isn't in the top 250 in rebounding, I graciously give him a 250 for that stat (though he is probably between 300-400), and he is still at 729!! Not even close! This goes to show you that most people are pretty ignorant or have trouble defining what great basketball really is. If Jordan had any pride (since he is 0-6 v Bird in the playoffs), he would come out and tell his zombies who the GOAT really is. He knows in his heart that Bird is the best to ever play. Bird beat Jordan ruthlessly 70% of the time in the regular season, and 100% of the time in the playoffs. Hell, Jordan had losing seasons his first 3 seasons, and didn't have a winning season until Pippen arrived. Bird took the 2nd worst team in the league (29-52) to a league best 61-21 his ROOKIE year and won the title his 2nd year--no Ainge, no DJ, and a rookie McHale. That is what playing winning basketball is all about. What is it about Jordan? the 6 championships came against talent he could beat--but he never won anything in the 80s--times were tough then, the first 6 years of his career. Using this metric, how does your pick for GOAT stack up? Whoever put this video together knows about as much as the casual nba fan does--next to nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
