One of the only helicopter scenes in any movie ever that has the characters yelling, like in a real helicopter, not talking in a normal voice, like in a set prop. Because Stanley Kubrick used a real helicopter! That alone makes it a great scene.

Easy, you just don't lead them so much..... 😧 That's a very brutal statement, I first watched this film in the early 2000s, I was probably no older than 12 at the time, that line skipped right passed me . Leading for anyone who does not know, is a term to describe the act of aiming a gun ahead of a moving target. The speed of the target dictates the distance ahead of a moving target that a gun must be aimed in order to score a direct hit. By saying he does not need to lead them so much, he is effectively him saying they are slow moving targets.

Leading is when you shoot ahead of a moving target so that they run into the bullet as it flies in front of them. As for women and children - Meaning that they probably didn’t run as fast as men, so little adjustment was needed… Cold.

Being a Vietnam war door gunner with the first Cavalry, I can say this scene is truly accurate. If fact, some door gunners were more insane than this.
