In this video, I will be restoring a vintage CYMA watch movement from the late 1960s. This watch was a reward for the long service provided by my stepfather's dad in 1969 from the company he worked for. It had an odd issue that caused it to wind stiffly, perform poorly, and run for a short amount of time. I will be going through the process of cleaning and lubricating the movement components, and I will also be tracking down and repairing the fault. I will be showing you the before and after results. Although this video is provided for entertainment, I hope that you learn something from it. Enjoy!
ОтветитьThanks for the video. I love it.
ОтветитьGreat content, I enjoy watching your disciplined repairs. 🫡
ОтветитьExcellent video. Of special interest as I still have my 1966 Cyma Watersport, which continues to provide excellent service and keeps superb time. Having had one service, I think I should be kind and treat it to a clean and general inspection.
ОтветитьHi I have a rare CYMA Crometre R446. The second recorder pinion driving wheel is missing and the pinion on the third wheel is broken. Do you have these parts?
ОтветитьYou never tell us what you pay for the watches you buy off eBay and Facebook and how much when you have done a repair is going to cost .i know it’s very expensive to have a watch serviced I took a seiko five in for service at a not into a Jewelers a stall in our shopping centre £275. More than I paid for it went into h,Samuel’s and bought a new one just under 200 with 2 year warranty,no brainer .it obvious you are a very rich man at these prices your are properly a lot more expensive.i looked at your major brand watches i do like the sea wolf but it’s way out of my price bracket and is so to most working class man.but i do enjoy you channel
ОтветитьNice looking watch !
ОтветитьI have a Cyma 586 K from 1952 serviced by my local watchmaker last year he said these are one of the best hand wind movements ever made runs chronometer standard and 71 years old that’s very impressive ! Great service !
ОтветитьI don't own a watch, I don't care about watches or watch repair, but somehow I always find myself on this channel. The care you put into these repairs is immense and every video is well filmed and instructional. Thanks for your hard work.
ОтветитьIt is always a pleasure to see a pro at work 😀
ОтветитьGracefully made movement & service! 👍👍
ОтветитьGreat video and great watch! Nice to see a problem fixed! Where do you find nice vintage looking crowns from? I have a Cousins UK account, do you like their selection?
ОтветитьVery nice 👍👍👍
ОтветитьAnother nice piece is in service again!!!
ОтветитьWhy does not come regular video?
ОтветитьRelaxing to watch thanks
ОтветитьI would have kept the original crown. But that is just me. Great job Mark and enjoyable video.
ОтветитьSuperb camera work!
ОтветитьEnrolled on your coarse have completed the first 2 coarses and just stripped down and serviced my first seagull 2824 movement following your eta2824 video. i left out the date wheel components as i dont have that function on my watch. really pleased although no timegrapher yet i have decent screwdrivers and tweezers, mobius oils and grease but my movement holder is aweful. thankyou for all the great info and advice. Really enjoying the experience
ОтветитьHi, i'm a happy subscriber to your channel. I get loads of inspiration from all your uploads and in that case I need your advise.
Which movement would you choose for a rolex day date (18038) 36mm replica?
can you please service my TAG Heuer Aquagraph caliber 60 --CN211A ETA 2892 A2 Dubois Depraz it as take-in salty water ...i don't trust anyone else to do an excellent job...
ОтветитьWhat incredibly steady hands you have. I'll bet you've had some very happy girl friends.
ОтветитьBeautiful !
ОтветитьWOW - What a difference in the crowns' knurling ! Not an Incabloc lyre shaped piece, but another anti-shock method...Thank you very much. I have a great time watching these videos.
ОтветитьThankyou!
ОтветитьSir Question please
For a watch so old isn’t it better to place a new main spring rather than using the old one???
Wow I don't think it left the factory in that superb clean condition O.o Have to agree on the don't make 'em like they used to, my 1947 gold Avia is still the undisputed most accurate mechanical watch in my entire collection and I have some high end Seiko's that just don't come close to the perfect railway track timegrapher reading, 0.0 BE, very good amp and loses zero secs a day. My suspicion is it is a drawer watch, maybe the owner didn't like it or just wore it for best, once I cleaned it up it came out like it was brand new and underneath the years of tarnish on the gold appeared a hallmark :) I paid £4 off ebay for the gem, listing said it needed a new battery and was full o' water, two twirls on the crown and it sprang into life.
ОтветитьGreat video as ever! I have a very rare and expebsive 1940s Angelus chronograph that is in need of restoration. How would you feel about doing this and creating a video of the job?
ОтветитьI’m a student of both your courses and your free videos. You’d taught us that normally the balance would come off first. Any particular reason you removed it following the barrel bridge?
ОтветитьI have a broken cyma wristwatch that my grandfather was given as an 18 birthday present in 1948. The spring doesn’t work and the oscillating thing spring also doesn’t work. What would repairing it cost? We took the watch to a “watchmaker” to restore it in the early ‘90’s but he removed the original movement and replaced it with a smaller one and drilled a hole in the face to accommodate the new second hand.
ОтветитьWelcome back! Actually, I'd unsub'd because I hadn't seen any new content in quite a while. I'll re-sub now of course 🙂 I guess I've never had a Cyma come across my bench. Interesting that they use a helical winding pinion. Haven't seen that before. New video editing suite? I noticed the use of several effects. The video /photography / lighting/ flow, etc, all look beautiful. Please go easy on the effects though. Just my very humble opinion. I look forward to future content from you as always!
ОтветитьNice job! Need to continue my watch channel course😀
ОтветитьTo the previous repairers repair. Perhaps it was dropped and the repair bearing shifted. I dont like to think after what appears to be an excellent repair he let it out into the world dragging its tail like it was.
ОтветитьQuestion on the amplitude, you say in your video that due to the age that an amplitude between 180 to 200 is good. What is the rule of thumb for that? Would it be any watch say made before 1980 or is it any vintage watch? Also, the rate, what would be an acceptable rate for a vintage watch in your opinion? Thanks
ОтветитьI thought this guy had died
ОтветитьBasically you disassembled the watch then cleaned and assembled again.
ОтветитьBravo!
ОтветитьAhhh, very nice to hear your expert voice again. Hope all is well! That's an interesting lower balance jewel shock spring/lever!
ОтветитьThe king is back. Long love the king!
Mate that was a masterclass. Great use of graphics, nice new Timegrapher system.
Perfect camera angles and lighting.
You have taken it up a level in my opinion which just shows all of us other watch repair channels who’s the boss.
Pleased your back too!
I'm really curious to know how you adjusted the barrel arbor bearing using your jewelling tool. Did you simply push the bearing a bit a bit away from the arbor? And thanks for another excellent video. Your story-telling style is superior and it's so nice not having to listen to the constant chatter that so many other watch repair channels suffer from 👍
ОтветитьSwiss movements in the 60’s that are beveled and plated are some of the prettiest ever.
ОтветитьGlad to see you back, so nice movement and what a shock spring !!!, some very nice tech solutions in this caliber! Thank you you for sharing this!
ОтветитьMy Friday just became fantastic!
Your channel has always been a diamond in a sea of coal!
Yay! Welcome back Mark!
ОтветитьBeautiful.
ОтветитьGood to see you back on YT Mark.
That is a lovely watch with a heap of family history.
Good to see it fixed up for a few more years.
Excellent camera work. Enjoyed the video.
