It's kinda depressing that you now have to pay close to $100 dollars to watch your favorite shows across multiple streaming services. Meanwhile, those that can't afford streaming services have to settle for cable, or worse yet, broadcast TV, which now has A more limited selection than cable, or streaming.

Why did cable companies never have an option for a number of channels of your choice? Like a ten channel plan where you choose which channels you want and only get those channels

This is where illegal streaming sites that require adblocker come in, and when this starts happening en masse maybe companies will change their practices to be more pro consumer.

As some one who works third shift, cable and satellite frustrated me because during the hours I was awake I was stuck watching infomercials or endless channels of televangelists. Netflix was a Godsend because it gave me something to watch. Of course the landscape is changing but in terms of content, I still find it better than what I was getting with cable and satellite.

Something you didn’t mention is that cable already held different channel packages separately to force you to pay for things you don’t want

if the streaming market was smart they try to get one service with as much content as they could get instead of having several streaming services i like Net flix but they have several free streaming services what i type here might not matter but i think they should bundle some streaming services together so you have much more to watch and less streaming sevices like they do on cable when ppl get a promotion and get more for a less price but keep the cheap price bundle as long as you have a few streaming services bundled together this i think would get more ppl to get streaming services this would be how i would go about doing this and it would make it cheaper for all just bundle several streaming services together for a cheaper price would be better then having lots of seperate streaming services hoping what i typed here was useful but i know it may never happen but Hulu bundled the Espn+Disney+and Hulu if they can do this why cant other streaming services do the same also wonders what ppl think about Disney plus talking about having comercials just my thoughts hope you all have a nice day

Yeah, its getting ridiculous. All of them are mediocre at best now. What I do now is just pay for one or two for a few months, watch everything I want to watch there then ditch those and go with different ones and watch everything there. By the time I cycle back, hopefully there’s some decent content. I think for sure we’re gonna be heading into commercials and weekly shows again. It’ll be no different than cable. Netflix is already floating the idea.

If everyone pirated rather than paid for all these subscriptions, we could drive all of these streaming services out of business in months. We need to demand a Spotify-style one-stop-shop for movies/tv.

I'll just keep one streaming service and pirate anything that isn't on there. They offered a better solution to end piracy, but it just isn't better anymore. The regular TV shows are just on TV which is basically free.

One opportunity with streaming is that small players like SFC can offer niche and specific content to audiences, like what we do for positive space films which is both educational and entertaining but with a purpose of inspiring the next space pioneers.

This is good. Competition is always good. If everything was in one place they would be the facebook of streaming. Also, there are more shows produced then ever before. There are more streaming services because there are more shows. Streaming is easy to cancel. Pick a service to watch for a month and cancel the rest for that time, most people are binge watching stuff anyways.

sorry for bringing in the math police, but the service cost comparisons made no sense. Were the data plans the same for the internet services? You can watch the streaming service on multiple devices at any location. The cable option would require you to carry the cable box around with you everywhere connected to a very very long extension cord.

I think the biggest thing that this assumes is that I wouldn't be paying for that internet regardless of TV. And also I've not seen the long term cost of cable TV below $150 since I cut my cord in 2009. I don't even remember when it hit that cost but I know it was that cost for a while. Also, it's not accounting for the value to the user for not watching all of those ads.

Consumer: this is too much!!
Cable: I knew you would be back….

The key is to use other people’s accounts. I have Netflix, Hulu, HBOmax, Prime movies and Apple TV… how many do I actually pay for??? None. I refuse.

Seems misrepresentative to include the whole cost of internet connection in the calculation since this is not its only usage. In basic accounting this would be assigned a percentage per overall usage, which would bring the cost more or less equal to cable, and any extra cost can be written off to the benefit of being able to watch what you want when you want, even while on the go. Its going to suck that we are going to need multiple streaming subscriptions, but if you have close friends/families that can share logins you could reduce the costs, I mean its not like you're going to stream multiple channels at the same time.

My cousin pays for Netflix
My best friend pays for HBO Go
I pay for Amazon Prime Video
My parents get DisneyPlus free with their cable subscription

So that way we get access to everything while each only paying for one item.

You gotta love that they are jealous of Netflix, so want to copy them, yet none of them can have the range of movies and shows Netflix had, and since they want programs that only their service has, those get pulled from Netflix. Honestly, it wouldn't bother me except many of the new services have laggy, poorly setup apps. Why not just copy Netflixs user interface. Everyone has their own and some are garbage (talking about you, paramount +) so not only do you have to bounce around between apps, you have to remember how to navigate each one as well.

Netflix pretty much killed file share; why bother with torrents when its easier to subscribe to a service for a good price. But even I have been saying for a while now that all these sub services will result maybe in file sharing coming back. there is simply a point where people conclude "its just not worth it"
