Have one of the newest ones with Bluetooth built in and got our airpods connected exactly like this but the audio still goes through the TV only, can't figure it out..

You download the Bluetooth on your tv

It does not have that option

I’m not sure if this has already been stated or not, I have just figured it out myself. I do not have the wireless headphone option on my tv and after some researching I figured out how to do this.

Step 1- download Roku app on phone
Step 2- connect to your tv in the Roku app
Step 3- turn on private listening in Roku app settings
Step 4- connect your headphones to your phone
Step 5- watch on your tv and listen through your phone. Problem solved 🎉!

I have done this and it now works for my tv.

Thats wild i gave the most recent Roku tv and it somehow in this day and age doesn't have it and I'm irritated now I have to use the Roku app which half the time doesn't even connect it just says wake this device when the TV is clearly already on and it never connects I gotta restart the TV and my phone like 50 times till it actually works

For this to work with your roku, your roku needs to have bluetooth built into it.
