I have an open bite that's about 1/2 to 2/3 of an inch wide. I got my braces on today and they hurt so much. I'm 17, in the summer before my senior year (June, 2020), and I really want my open bite closed before Homecoming in 4 months. Realistically, I know it's not possible but I'd at least like it closed before we have our senior dance in January 2021. I have to take my senior pictures soon, and for my entire life, I've had all my school pictures taken with my mouth closed, but I really hope I can show off straight teeth this time around, even with the braces on. I still tongue thrust at night, but I'm mewing during the day to help get rid of this ongoing issue.

What about I became Class II - openbite from Class I during the 'treatment'! What do you thingk about that? My treatment is continuing but I will change the ortho because I think she srew up. Pls share your opinion with me.

Warning!! DO NOT USE LATEX ELASTIC BANDS WITH YOUR BRACES!! ☠️🦷☠️🦷☠️🦷☠️🦷☠️
I got braces years ago and loved the results, as my bite felt great and my teeth looked perfectly aligned. But like most patients I had to wear elastic bands inside my mouth for 2 years, and as a result I became allergic to latex afterwards. At first I had mild symptoms and then it progressed into a SEVERE ALLERGY that is ruining my life. I can no longer work, travel or even eat out in a restaurant. There is no treatment and it is for life 😭. All I can do now is carry a couple epipens on me at all times in case my airways close up during an exposure to latex, which has happened a dozen times already. My allergist told me to avoid latex and natural rubber, but it’s impossible as latex is everywhere, in balloons, glues, scotch tape, elastic bands, stretchy clothing, shoes, bath mats, carpets, car/bike tires, mattresses, disposable gloves, sport balls, swimming googles, gym equipment, etc etc etc... the list is endless! There’s over 40,000 everyday items made with latex...I’m in hell.

Please ask your orthodontist to uses NON-LATEX glues and elastic bands!! It is a small precaution that can save you from developing this horrible allergy. Just do a quick search and you will see the link between orthodontic braces and allergy to latex. Only education and prevention will keep it from increasing at an alarming rate. Be smart and stay away from this toxic material. I wish I had been told to be careful years ago, that would have saved me from the nightmarish life I have to live now.
Save yourself and STAY AWAY FROM LATEX!! 🙏

What about an overbite and very short roots?

It has helped my overbite .. in one month I see excellent results.. tongue on roof of the mouth helped my lower jaw come forward .. now I keep my teeth over teeth and lips closed all the time.. helping me to breath from my nose in sleep and day time.. only I have chewing issue due to teeth not aligned properly.. I may go to orthodontist now for braces . I am 35 years old .. tongue posture works .. thank you

Are tongue appliances actually helpful in breaking the habit of tongue thrusting?

I went to two different orthodontists for braces consultation and one told me that the tongue appliances don't work well with adults and to focus on exercises only. The other believes that the tongue appliance alone can break the habit of tongue thrusting.

How much time it will take ?

I noticed that not all the open bite are created equal. Some people need to pull down the upper teeth while other people need to pull up the lower teeth. In my case, for example...I have an open bite but my upper teeth are perfect. Treating in the way you suggest means that my long will be longer.

That's the reason why my mouth doesn't change even with braces

And the birth defect of my tong is a bad habit since little .. do I need surgery I went to a consultation and the orthodontist said I will loose the work since I have that problem is that true ?
