I can't believe I'm the first to bring it up, but really, that we didn't evolve from knuckle-walkers, but from already bipedal apes (presumably gibbon-like, but who knows?) is definitely nothing new and groundbreaking.
Stephen Donaldson spends a full chapter explaining this with Owen Lovejoy right there in his book "Lucy" (1981, but recounting events of the mid 1970s)
Phrases that strike my memory:
"There's no intermediate between being quadrupedal and being bipedal. Being tripedal?"
"Knuckle walking is a very specialized posture."
I wonder if I still have the book somewhere (but it's a translation, maybe I should acquire the original).

I do wonder then when exactly bipedalism evolved? As we all have quadruped ancestors, at some point this adaptation must of arisen and before danuvian gugganmosi, so this has pushed the date way back for that period of development. Great content as usual.

Is there any evidence against there being no common ancestor?

bigfoot? I know it doesn't exist, or does it? I tend to believe it exists. I believe it is a hominin that still lives today.

I dont see many Apes or Chimps that are Airline Pilots. Its not a "human centric" view to see reality as it is, lol. This constant "critical theory" indoctrination that infects every single millennial to their very core is the actual problem, lol... All roads lead to ovens. Replacing critical thinking with the critical theories was a terrible idea brought to you by modern Marxist Inc. All the joys of Leninism with a sprinkle of Mussolini's and Hitlers Fascism with a heaping helping of Mao's red guard.

There isn't enough evidence to conclude a lot of this.

The fact that 110 fossils of a proto-hominid is only found in Europe so far does not mean it didn't come from Africa, nor that others of its kind weren't there. There must have been a lot going on in Africa that we haven't so far found. Even if Udis were more common in Europe, that coiuld be more a function of low ape diversity in Europe than of where they came from. Plenty of modern humans that migrated have their genetics far more common where they migrated there than where they came from. This is because when people, or animals, migrate, they take only a subset of the parent genetic diversity with them.

No evidence except a minor difference in one joint was presented that gorillas and chimpanzees don't share a common ancestor who diverged from the hominid line.

We don't need to repeatedly excitedly commit ourselves to ideas in the absence of sufficient evidence.

If you spend time looking at the gibbon, the theories surrounding Ardi and our own bipedalism starts making a lot more sense.

I'm afraid relaying only on bypidal theory would be very wrong. Many other species have developed that step. But they choose not to stay that way..but We Humans did. It's because We learnt the importance of our HANDS. We understood the technological aspect of the use of the hands in our survival. That's why we choose to became different.
Letter on we've learnt to survive by staying away from the nature. Invention of clothes and finally shoes to disconnect us from the earth. Yes, we've started learning about worms and germs. Today We still have kept our hands open ( unless the need for gloves ) because that's the Organ We use the most, to work things daily. It started..Yes.. since the beginning of the beginning ... 🙂

Yeah read the book Stefan... brilliant post by the way....I think Ardi was a true 'missing link', being descended from a very ancient Miocene omnivorous bipedal wading/shoreline/littoral foraging (as Alister Hardy suggested in 1960) and still tree-nesting lineage that has existed since Morotopithecus at 20Ma...4.4 Ardi is on its way to Pan, a hangover East African immigrant from Southern Europe during the Messinian Crisis.....we came from the population that evolved on the tidal zones of the peninsula of Southern Greece. on what is now the island of Crete (Gierlinski et al 2017.) please check out the 6Ma Trachilos footprints of (in my estimation) obligately bipedal proto-Homo juveniles wading on their toes in chest-to neck-high seawater....

I think the evolution theory was right until the extinction of the dinosaurs.
At that time the world were seeded with new beings and amongst them humans.
I think humans had alien dna,or that they originated from another planet, but
the climate on earth made them change appearance, such as loosing body hair.Gaining
taller bodies, and an expansion in intelligence which differs humans from animals.
The different kinds of humans i think was more deformed humans in old ages, due
to the difficulties adopting to a new planets climate. These humans is the reason scientist think
they were other humanspecies, like erectus, neanderthals and cromagnum.
Therefore i think mammals
orginate from a planet just outside our solarsystem.
It was probably a cold planet since humans had bodyhair allover, but lost it due to
the warm temperatures on this planet. That is one of the biggest evidences i think 😀

Can the anthropologists measure the bone density over the evolutionary period and how much weight is being exerted, at least on the weight bearing bones, small or large ? This can be correlated with weight bearing and posture and gait !

How come present apes did not evolve?
4 or 2 years ago, Wikipedia changed the hundreds of millions of years for a cm of stalactites and stalagmites to form to 45 years.
You can visit Makati City in Manila Metropolis and find the tunnel made by American soldiers during WW2. It had stalactites and stalagmites.
Elsewhere in central Philippines, a cave with 12 inches long stalactites and stalagmites, soft, grayish in color. They got the color from recent charcoal makers above the cave.

I find it funny there are those who accept a unproven evolution. It's made of theory , guess works, myths twisted words personal needs. That random cells fell to earth. Thus water air, land oceans appear. Then this micro cell gets bigger to become all kinds of sea creatures . One gets board and wants to see what the land is like. So in time grows lungs to breath air. So others join to become different mammals as one becomes a monkey. Six million years later , tired of being a monkey , say let's turn to human. Yet they have a hard time accepting creation by God. Well you can keep your monkey ancestry, mine was created as we look today. As smart . By God. Yes He's proven , look around. It did not just happen by chance. Where is anything new that has been evolved since the ape, to man.?? Nothing.

If it is the evolutionary goal of all apes to evolve into man, why do we still have apes? And why do we not see living steps between the two?
I’m not being facetious, just asking a valid question.

We all have a common ancestor because every lifeform has at least one parent. If we follow this logic back through history, we are all descendants of a single ancestor. Go back farther and we are the stars. Go back farther and we are the universe. Tat tvam asi.

🕳💀⇔👣🔍🙈🙉🙊⁉Here's the Real Problem :
There are basically for all intent and purposes, very modern footprints from 👣3-3.75Mya..at Laeoli, Tanzania...it was naturally, assumed at that time, these footprints were from a bipedal Australopithecus Afarensis.."Lucy's" folk...as their fragmentary fossils were found there..

Except...
in 1994-1999..the most complete Australopithecus skeleton was found (90%)"Little Foot" ...and dated much newer (2.2 Mya) then the modern human footprints at Laetoli...Lucy is only a 40% skeleton and missing any feet bones...but Little Foot's more complete skeleton clearly indicates the splayed Simian foot-thumb...indicative of largely tree dwelling life-style and these Australpithicine feet of course do not match at all, the much earlier "modern" foot prints of Laeoli...but apparently not entirely dashing, the now "Leakey" hopes for a Lucy-Ape with fully human feet and toes...
As a result no final "species" designation has even been given to "Little Foot" although she is much more complete than Lucy....and so very like her in every way...

PS:..All this has led to speculations (...and desperate need) for a 2nd contemporary fully bipedal Hominid species to the fossil Australopithines of Laeoli...are there any candidates?
Well?... as it turns out Laeoli is also repository for amongst the oldest of Homo Sapien fossils, which of course, do match the 3.75 mya footprints...just not the dating methods of modern science (120,000 ya)...
Imagine that!...what a coincidence!..
