first search engine was invented by the great yank elizabeth jocelyn jake feinler in 1982 and it was called WHOis and not archie in 1987 by alan emtage peter deutsch bill heelen who came up with the idea but in reality they could not make it work
ОтветитьThe Internet looked a lot better than that in 1997 when I first got on it.
ОтветитьBefore AOL 😂😂😂
ОтветитьVery cool. This was right before bigots, conspiracy theorists and insane people discovered how useful it was. An historic moment.
ОтветитьThis was obviously before porn….
ОтветитьI remember back in the early and mid 90s there were no viruses
ОтветитьBefore there was 'search engines' there was something called "Bulletin Boards".
ОтветитьSTAR TREK: THE NEW GENERATION 😐
Ответитьmy 2nd cousins are like "kids today would never understnad how good the 90s was" when this is what u had to do before google and yahoo existed.
ОтветитьI use lynx in the terminal on gentoo. Had no idea it was that old!
ОтветитьI wonder what opera would be like if it existed back then
ОтветитьIt’s wild seeing a video from 14 years ago being taken aback by 13 year old technology for the time 💀🤣
ОтветитьIn 1990s, I used Netscape Navigator to browse the internet. It is a search engine. Even though it took longer time to search the correct website or files that you want to find. That's why, all businesses started to put their website address every where, on name cards, advertisings, banners, etc.
It is also becoming a gimmick that time, that putting the web address meant your business had gone to internet, and gave a sense of modernity.
What is shown here in this video, is actually coming from the 70s to late 80s, not in the 90s.
I see a lot of the commenters here remembering back when this was the norm and feeling old. As someone born in 2006, I have the exact opposite feeling.
ОтветитьPrivacy while interfacing with the computer? Did people used to masturbate using the library's computer? Those must have been some crazy times.
Ответитьman, that old time internet looks much better--no scammy ads or loud auto-play videos!
ОтветитьMs Gallegos, where can I buy one of these internets?
ОтветитьI always have the desire to go back in time when these retro videos start listing all the benefits and uses of the Internet and yell....PORN...the future is all about PORN!! lmao
ОтветитьI'm confused, Trine was described as the internet? 🤣
ОтветитьI now can appreciate the easy life search engines do to us
ОтветитьIn many ways the internet was better before search engines. Governments wanted them to control the discourse. But remember, the internet came from government, under the name Ada.
I once searched the internet yellow pages, and instead of taking me to the Star Trek site, it took me to the CIA!
I started in computers in 1971.
Lol "overwhelming"
ОтветитьOh my. The Internet Yellow Pages! That cracked me up!
ОтветитьAnd this video was released almost 14 years ago before smartphones really existed in any capacity, so this was "the internet before search engines AND before smartphone technology." Wild. Internet Yellow Pages had me rollin bro. And I REMEMBER this and it still had me in stitches.
ОтветитьInternet Yellow Pages
ОтветитьHmm, how are we going to create an easily accessible table of websites so that everyone, everywhere, can find the information that they need?
I know, how about a book!
Shoutout to telnet
Ответить1990: browsing an encyclopedia at the other side of the world.
2021: buying stuff online while pooping.
Looking at this in 2021 with Tiktok, Facebook, and Instagram, seems like I am watching videos from the dinosaur age.
ОтветитьNothing has sold more home computers than the advent of internet porn.
ОтветитьI had 3 "Internet Yellow Pages" type books on my desk for most of the 90's, along with printed lists in sheet protectors in a binder.
ОтветитьLynx can still be used from the Linux terminal
ОтветитьIf only we could go back to a time when internet searches
yielded results that were not ruined by tons of ads and
more new Google schemes to make money.
Ohhh the good old times... miss them...
ОтветитьRaise your hands if you are The Google Kids!
ОтветитьI wonder if there's a repository of all current internet sites today
ОтветитьI haven't heard anyone say those names in a LONG time... I remember watching these shows in my country back in the early 90s and wishing really hard I get to use them...
ОтветитьTbh, say whatever but "boomers" invented the dopest shit....
Gen z can brag about their granma not knowing how to use phone but their generation made phones.
damn.
ОтветитьWhen the internet was free. FREE!
Ответитьmakes you wonder where these people are today....
Ответить2021?
ОтветитьInternet can appear complex at first they said, but they never said I needed an entire phone book dedicated just for it!!!!!!!!
