Practiced confidence is fragile. Natural confidence is supreme. Many of the youth I observe today have unsubstantiated egos/confidence. I am amazed by it because I know it is unsubstantiated. Tested many would fail. Actors are false purveyors of confidence. It is assigned by lessor people who perceive their movie characters as who they really are. Note that many fall victim to substance abuse and sometimes suicide because its all false. Being a high paid actor isnt really achievement. Many simply are high on cocaine or psychotropic drugs. And many others do literally anything to get to the top. It is through experiences, including failures. Trying to emulate this artificially is dangerous. The speaker in this video, for example, speaks well but is very practiced at the presentation of confidence. He doesn't seem genuine to me. Real confidence is natural. He just studies it and human psychology. Listen to his required excersizes prior to acting confident. Not something true confidence requires or the truly confident would entertain. Outside his element....? Bottom line, pretending can get you hurt.

Dude, everything that comes out of your mouth is like ” I’ve discovered how to show that I am confident” which is over the top of “I am not confident, but I think I’ve won them over.”
Why don’t you do the talk about how to BE confident, because you know who you are, because what you are doing is valuable, because you are here to help people.

As far as Powell being a great, confident statesman, I can only relay my own experience working with Sec. Powell during my intern days with the State Department. Powell made regular trips to our overseas embassy and the only lasting, strong memory I have of Sec. Powell was his handshake. You'd think that a man of his physical and political stature, a former military general, would have the firmest, strongest handshake this side of the Mississippi. You'd be wrong. To this day, I cannot get over what a limp noodle handshake he had, how dainty and soft and weak (and physically cold) his hand was. It was like I was shaking the hand of a small woman who had been throwing snowballs all day. Bizarre.

He would always end the meeting by saying (and have all of us say) "When you know, and you know that you know, then confidence replaces fear!" And he was exactly right! Just take that first step, know your subject or skill inside-out, act as if your on a mission, and you will go a long way! It's just a mindset thats all.

Before I became disabled, I always used good posture, both standing and sitting. Now elderly, disabled and ambulating painfully, with a cane, despite feeling confident, it is difficult to project that.

I became more confident when I accepted the idea that I have no control over other peoples thinking and realizing that it is not worth my time and energy to worry about. The things that people say, whether it is about you or anything else, says more about themselves. When someone speaks they showcase and represent themselves for everyone to hear and see. How you respond or choose to say will also say a lot about you, more than the person you are saying it to or about.
