I've watched NASCAR and Indy car for years. Watching this car in a parking lot was just as thrilling. Except instead of wanting more, I wanted out!!!

It's like if you described a Smart Fortwo to an alien who then tried to reverse engineer it and did it poorly... Makes me glad European city cars have improved muchly since then... I love my Black/Silver smartie and will drive it until it falls apart...

RE My Messerschmitt post below, I awoke this morning after having another nightmare after 65 years I remembered the very first thing that broke on this thing was the gear change ...it was about TWO MILES of heavy duty bowser brake cable from the right hand side of the cockpit to the motorbike gear lever on the LEFT side of the engine in the rear....luckily my Dad who had a bike shop made up a solid rod arrangement on the left cockpit side in line which I fell over nearly every time I GOT OUT , I actually became quite good at performing a Rolly Polly on my way out of the contraption up to Olympic standards having got entangled in the gear knob,but it worked fine. Dad didnt have two miles of heavy brake cable in stock and didnt know where to get any.........Its a wonder I wasn't castrated on the gear knob
I must have been a right So and So in my past life to be punished to cruelly, I wish I had kept my beautiful Norton Dominator which I part exchanged for the evil thing and just applied for FULL car licence...OH WELL.......I'm still here after having survived several near misses of being squished like a fly in the beast. God must love me.....

I saw this thing when it was in the Micro Car museum in Georgia. Two things no mentioned are the fact that the builder didn't even bother to make the body symmetrical. Just look at how the roof meets the windshield! The other problem is that because the engine and gearbox must have room to swing from side to side every time you turn the wheel, 100% of the space in the back of the car has been taken. All it has is one rather wide 3 person (perhaps 4?) bench seat.

But is the drivers seat made of cardboard? (Ford pinto style, cant get it wet)

The longer you look at it, the worse it gets. I don't know how they managed to take standardized materials and make a car that is completely asymmetrical in every dimension.

I am 80 years old. I have been interested in cars for 75 years. In all that time, the Hoffmann is THE WORST horror, fright and nightmare that I have ever seen when it comes to cars, in all that time!!!!!!

Jason, try driving a post-war 2-Stroke, 3-wheeler Bond mk A, B, C, D, E, or F and they made thousands of them. Equally horrid and terrifying but they were fairly popular until the Mini cam along and killed the idea of driving your family around in crude motorcycle covered in aluminium foil.

When I saw the rear wheel steering, I just thought "this has to be made by an aircraft designer, not a car designer". It's hilarious tho.

The front track is longer than the wheelbase. 🤣

After WW II, there were a series of three-wheelers in the UK called Bond Minicars. They too were very lightweight (less than 896 lb - for tax reasons) three wheelers made of aluminium. They also used a two-stroke motorcycle engine and gearbox which pivoted with the steering. However, the entire arrangement was the exact mechanical reverse. It has two wheels at the rear, with the steerable engine/gearbox/wheel unit at the front. It also had a longer wheelbase and narrower track and was at least something like a normal car to drive.

The later engines were 250cc Villiers 2-stroke units, with the more powerful versions having a heady 14.6 bhp (the very first model in the range had a kerb weight of just 500lb with 5 bhp).

This is standard motorcycle gearbox and engine.

I thought the Trabant, Yugo & Geo Metro were the worst of the worst. But this makes those cars look nice to drive.
