I like Astarion as a character storywise, but I found him too emotionally abusive to ever romance again. I prefer keeping him as an ally/friend rather than anything else.

I hate how often just trying to be a supportive friend to these traumatized characters suddenly becomes wez kissing or I agreed to hook up choice. Shadowheart, little secret addict, wants to go talk just us... Eek! Wyll is so detached from his past joys, doesn't dance and more, heartbroken that dancing isn't gonna be more...yikes! Meanwhile, karlack will tots try to steal you from an established choice, but I was tired and skipped from I worked hard to get her ready and poof, slept alone and no follow up after I got to hug her. My first was lazell, I talked to everyone at the party and I liked how straightforward she was.

But I gots that ADHD dropping my game weirdly early and can't finish unless it's perfect so I've played five characters and barely got to the middle of act 2. Little further every time.

Karlach with 3 or 5 levels of barbarian, take 2 levels of fighter, and speck the rest into War Cleric

Honestly choosing between Astarion and Gale was so difficult. I didn't pay too much attention to Gale until the weave scene. I actually cried. Embarrassing I know. But it was incredibly well written. After that I guess I took a liking to him.

i understand that all the companions are not everyone’s favorite and it’s completely fine to dislike any of them. but your assessment of gale and halsin are definitely way off. “codependent” is not a word that really applies to gale. and for halsin, even though lots of players are in their 20’s there are plenty that are much older so all tav’s are not in their 20’s. and even within the origin characters, most of them are well past their 20’s. so i’m genuinely confused by the assessment of, “he’s an older creeper who only likes to bang 20-somethings.”

Im just gonna put it this way: I've been playing gb3 for the first time with a buddy and were both trying to have atleast 1 romance/controlable npc each. I have had shadowheart as my companion pretty much all the way through act one, and the way she views me is "your only use is to catch arrows with your body" (I'm a wizard so i can hardly do even that). I swapped Lae'zel on my team for all of 20 minutes and she respects me as a fighter, finds my power attractive, and wants to protect me.

I seriously dont understand how Shadowheart is the most romanced character. She has the most 'spin the wheel and see where it lands' moral compas for every interaction I have, and treats me like utter dogshit after I respect her privacy, dont judge her for her religion, and save kids.

Fuck Shadowheart, but in the derogatory way.

I made my Karlach a tiger heart barbarian. She doesn't need a bonus action attack when she can hit 3 enemies at once with one attack.

About Astarion vibes, while he is a great character storywise, personally I find it EXTREMELY difficult to enjoy his romance. A friend? Hell yeah, I'm on it, but his trauma responses ("I push people away before they push me away" and at the beginning he basically gets close to you to be safer in the camp with other, so - using you for personal gain) are something that triggers the hell out of me. I'm trying to romance him in my current playthrough and I feel somewhat uncomfortable with that? Idk, I wanna fix him (cause he deserves it) but as platonic friend only

Astarion as a min-maxed Gloomstalker Assassin just takes out the entire battlefield while my other characters sit back and relax. That man never leaves my team. The sassy comments are a great bonus too.

You know I do also have to say I enjoyed lae’zel. At the beginning I wanted to off her because she was annoying and pushy and mean, but as you build trust with her she ends up being one of the most loyal, sweet, and considerate companions. When removing her from you’re party she’ll say “at the ready,” she fully trusts and honors your decisions and is there for you no matter what. Love that 🥲

100% agreed on every point. I chose astarion in both my “good” (really it Eas more neutral good)play through as well as my evil one. He’s perfect for each one because he can kinda turn either which way. Which could be a counterpoint for him in some peoples minds but it really just shows the abundance of thought and character progression behind his character. If I were straight I’d DEFITELY pick Karlach (with shadowheart as a close second). She is just. So amazing and cute and funny but also a big strong tank 🥲 But I also kinda liked gale maybe? I might try a play with him. Definitely loved having him in my party though you’re so right about wizards.

naaah, clerics can be strong. Life domain has so much healing and I use spirit guardians and planer allies so much. With spirit guardians you can literally just walk around causing dmg.

I have no idea why so many people keep insisting on using firebolt/sacred flame with Shadowheart and then complain whe doesn't hit shit or think she's only good for healing. There are tons of builds online better than her default and even her default makes a ton of damage using the right spells. Inflict wounds, guardian spirits and guiding bolt are freaking OP, she's probably the second hardest hitter in my party

As far as asarion goes, i fully agree, 110% deferves every award. But for me im on the same level danny is with la'zel, i just cant deal with the guy, i keep him on purly for the fighing and JACKED rolling abilites.
But the SECOND that m-fer tries to drink my blood and i fail that roll to stop him, stab, nope, you said you wouldnt kill me, YOU SON--

Minthara's story is a little more complex, I think. She was a plaything to Orin like Astarion was to Cazador. She's just much more reserved when you get your revenge. A lot of people miss this exact plot point

I've never understood the hype for Shadowheart. She and Gale are the worst romance options, to me.

What separates Gale's trauma from the others is that his condition was entirely self-afflicted. To put it succinctly (and as Mystra herself points out) Gale is a victim of his own hubris.

Welll....my opinion might be different. I'm a limited romancer and i didn't choose it. Most poeple don't get what it means to be born 100% straight. But i admit i'm a male only romancer. Don't get me wrong, i like all characters in their way even if it's just for the fund you have with them.

Shadowheart - once the Ice queen melts, you have a real princss. She can be very cute, and i know there's a lot of Shadowheart Sharran defenders, but nows. I think she wasn'r meant to be Sharran if you listen to her story closely ;)
Lae'zel - comes on too strong for my taste, when she quickly expresses wnating sex with you. But she is still cool, because later if you still have high approval, she's very loyal
Karlach- she's just a sweetheart and if i was a guy i sure would romance her. She's also petty funny, and always honest, i like her. Gods damnit, Larian! Give Karlach a real happy ending finally!
Minthara - gets softer as the romance proceeds. But in the beginning, is pretty creepy when she demands that you break up with her partner for her, once you have enough approval.

Long story short: My female straight Tavs can't really fall in love with other girls. So i'd rather have them as my best friends than hitting on me :)

Halsin - Daddy Halsin is the only romance partner how literally lets you sleep with others all you want - as nature designed. :P But them again he has this warm bear aura and can be a softy in heart. So if you want to go wild reagrding sex, choose Halsin, you won't regret it. Btw....you can also tell him to stay in his elf form in the sex scene ;)
Astarion - has enterainment value. But depends on which path you take with him. I once romanced him and no, he did not ascend. But sacrifing those 1 D 10 (?) extra damage was worth it. She was rewarded with a way more kind and caring Astarion and the sadistic streaks were gone. I was like "WTF...? I think i just broke Astarion!" , when he said he loves her :D
Wyll - also romanced once. If he wasn't a Warlock he would be your knight in shining Armor. But i always wonder "How did i trigger that guy?". Also his story is tied to Karlach, so yiu can only have your happy Fairytale ending with Wyll, if Karlach dies. Otherwise he will go to hell with her, literally. Granted that he becomes the blade of Avernus
Gale - i admit he's my favorite. The man is lucky, i love puppies. :P ;)
I find it hard, to resist that lost puppy expression around his eyes in his emotional moments. :D
But actually he is smart, too. This character is more complex than most people think. But i find him also very funny wihout intention. Once you got him as your partner, he is that loyal, you can turn into a Mind flayer and he's the only romance partner who would still marry you in public. But i never would do that to him, he deserves better. He's actually a good person, just that he made some idiotic decisions in life. But hey, everyone makes mistakes . I still like to help him become better and less co-dependent during the story, it's well worth it :)

Astraion has the best written story among the males. The other two neeeed some rework in my eyes. But i still like them, too. Sometimes personality is more important to me than how well things are played.

But the video is greatly done, very entertaining with all the crazy passion. I was like...roflmao :D

....and P.S. Shadowheart is also good as a cleric. Just the trickery domain she has as a Sharran makes her pretty weak in my eyes. I always play her as a Light domain Cleric, which also makes her pretty tanky with the rigth stats and equipment :P ;)

not Mt Halsin 💀 mans has some of the WORST s*xual trauma in the game. So his personality kinda makes sense. He was held as a s*x slave by Drow for 3 years ;n; and yeah he comes on strong but I find thats only if you flirt AND hes super respectful even if you come on to him while ur characters in a relationship. hes like you MUST get permission

I do actually think who you worship makes a difference in the roles of the dice. My first character was a Cleric... honestly it was an accident, i didnt realise i could choose a class. im not getting into it xD but i followed Tymora- the goddess of luck and my Cleric was BROKEN, did the most damage in my party. Shadowheart follows the Shar the lady of loss. SO IT MAKES SENSE SHE ROLES SHIT xD not sure if it was good RNG on my side or what but I also wouldnt put it past the developers to add in some sneaky code that did that
