IMO a silicone sock should be your first line of defense and this is a fantastic backup underneath for the heater block and also for the nozzle, wires, heatbreak neck, and surroundings. Also this stuff is cheap enough at the rate you go through a bottle that there’s really not much reason not to use it unless you’re printing something like PEEK.
