23 years ago today.

I'm not sure how many people seeing this now were watching when it happened, but I guess it has to be said. This was one of many. Its really not fun recalling this, but there was a period of time during 9/11 when the news stations were cutting away from their views of the towers because so many victims were falling through the camera shot. I remember later they interviewed a firefighter who said every night since he had nightmares about the "thump thump thump" that he heard approaching the buildings knowing it was the sound of bodies hitting the pavement.

The video doesn’t do the enormity of this feat justice…imagine yourself 1000’ above the street, hundreds of feet above landing airplanes and trying make this happen. Even though he didn’t make it, it’s still an accomplishment to me, man. Most people (myself included probably…let’s be honest) would’ve sat there like “omgggg” until the flames forced them out onto the window and into the air.

The poor guy who scaled a rounded to 20 floors of the WTC to save his own life is one of the saddest stories of that day in my opinion. He got so far then lost his grip. It hurts me so much to think about. That man had heart and drive and I hope he and all the victims of that day both land and air are resting peacefully

There’s a story of a man who shimmied down 20 floors from the top of north tower …. Unfortunately he also fell right after the south tower got hit.

He made it down about two floors, too. I think he thought he could get a little lower, bust in a window and escape down the stairs.
I always wonder what he must have felt as he clung to the side as he slipped. Then when it became apparent he wasn't going to make it...did he regret his decision? I hope not.

Its a shame that sky scrapers are designed in a way that there is nohting to grab onto from the outside. There should be latters on all four sides of the building mounted on the faces. That yes go alllll the way down. Idc how tall the building is. That would have been the solution. Would it be a harrowing, dangerous endevour to climb down sure. But when you really consider it its no different th3n climbing down any other ladder

This just goes to show what sheer desperation looks like. He would rather take his chances trying to climb down the outside of a 1,000ft building than allow the fire to consume him.
