CORNWALL'S BEST PASTY ? Philps Pasties in Marazion

Hi Greeno, first time commenting here but its nice to see you down in my neck of the woods, i only live a mile away from Marazion, if i knew you were there i would have joined you for a pint ! 😅 Good choice with Philps , they really are delicious and the only commercial ones i eat these days. Avoid Rowes and Warren's pasties if you see them, they aren't what they use to be. You should check out Gears Farm pasties between Helston and the Lizard, supposedly the best in Cornwall according to local knowledge, although I haven't tried them myself, but they're organic and have a café on site selling homemade produce. Those looked delicious! And such a lovely place to enjoy eating them, despite the wind and that prehistoric-sized seagulls circling overhead. We have a pasty restaurant here in the desert but that's the only place I've found here that sells them. They're alright, but nothing like what I saw you enjoying there in Cornwall. Consider me jealous!

I love a good pasty, the pastry sounded lovely and crunching, well filled and the sausage roll looked lovely with plenty of sausage meat and again, crunchy pastry 😋
We have two shops in York called the Cornish Pasty Co, beautiful pasties and around the same price that you paid!

I used to go to Cornwall every year and always went to Philps in Hayle, best pastys ever. Even used to get mail orders from them.

We used to have a cornish pasties cafe in Cologne, it was lovely, they served pasties and scones, I loved it. Unfotunately, they closed due to covid 😢 I miss my pasties ❤ This video is so much fun!

We don't see Pasties very often where I live in Sydney, but it's great when you can get a good, freshly made one. The ones you had looked great & good value too. Your location there is stunning!! I've visited the UK several times, but have not been to Cornwall.

to find a decent pasty , they're all dry and tasteless but your's looked good

Cornwall is beautiful, I have a special fondness for Philps, so I am glad you enjoyed their food. When Mrs Greeno first said, the fudge flavours, I misheard and thought it was chocolate and sea salt which are a match made in heaven.

Philps Pasties are just the absolute best!!!
The Vegetables; Perfectly cooked with just the right amount of "toothsomeness" to them.
The Meat; Pure, unadulterated, rich, healthy, wonderful, beautiful, beefy, succulent pieces of Bav. or Skirt, I think.
The Pastry; Almost as good as my Mums.
The Seasoning; Wonderfully invigorating White Pepper followed by a threat of Salt that somehow wrestles the Veggies, the Meat, the Pastry...Into an absolute headlock of flavour that just brings a smile to your face when tried.

Gear Farm has the best pasties in my books, on the lizard….only open til 2pm I think…I found them by accident, on the way back from a circular walk. Do check them out if you go back to Cornwall!

Tasty pasties

The last Philps pasty I had wasn't very good at all. I was bitterly disappointed as there had been so much hype over them.

Philp's are the best at the moment. Warren's, well, let's just say Ginsters 2.0

Im in Ireland. My Mum was from Sunderland. She made AMAZING Pasties. Short pastry is the original.

I wish I knew about you before I went to Marazion a couple of years ago. Of course I had a Cornish Pasty which was good but I’d have liked to try your Philps recommendation.

Put your pasty in the bag while eating, glad you enjoyed them. Vegan [veg only one] is great too.

Philps pasties are excellent though I prefer Mary's Pasties in Tresillian, Truro. Get there before they sell out to avoid disappointment though! Their steak and stilton is fantastic

30 years living in Cornwall I managed to aviod eating pastys ,yes I have give them a go ,but generally horrible dry bland things that belong down the mine ,give me a freshly baked pork pie or a steak and kidney pie anytime,the pastys I have eaten had bits of old tyre and everything thrown in ,and ended up with me scuttling off to the john 😮

From 2009 - 2018 we stayed in Marazion for our summer break. Philps was our go-to pasty shop. Quite a few locals told us that they were the best in Cornwall. I remember the lovely peppery flavor to the steak ones. The only negative thing about Philps were the people working there, they used to be so miserable and rude. The chip shop was another strange place, only open for a couple of hours in the evening, food was nice but again the staff were rude and miserable.

Philps Hayle is the one I go to usually and always the steak ones - about the best pasties out there from the more commercial bakers, aside from one secret place I know on the Lizard and won't be sharing! If you are in East Cornwall Malcolm Barnecutt in Liskeard and few other places are also right up there.

Philps are the best by far, lavenders in Penzance aren’t too bad. Warrens, nope, like a Ginster’s now, the old man would be turning in his grave. Rowes, better than Warrens. I live in Penzance

The iced bun your daughter is eating we have similar in Australia 🇦🇺 they are called 'Finger Buns' very popular too been around for ages also we put butter 🧈 and or margarine in the middle 😉 ❤🎉

Sorry, but a Cornish Pasty MUST be Short Crust Pastry, not flaky.

I make my own version of a pastie ( usually chicken) with a pocket sandwich maker. My favorite lunch! Good vid.

The crimp to pasty ratio is good 👍 A lot of the time it’s so big there’s not much pasty to eat ☹️
Nice amount of filling and flaky pastry - a good alternative 👏 I prefer it to shortcrust as that can be really thick and dry 🫤
