The Power of Tragedy: Cyberpunk Edgerunners

David needed only two people in his life, Lucy and Rebecca :( they would have been the pillar of his life.

Such a bummer they had no plans to continue the series. they gave us a fantastic story of the Street Kids, if they signed on for 2 more seasons they could have explored the Nomads & Corpo aspects. each with different perspectives of Night City & how it forces them to do what they have to do to survive to the extent that even the pure of heart are pushed to the edge of complete corruption, whether it be technology, greed or vengeance.

One of the things I loved about this show, was David’s insistence that he was special, I really related to that more then I’d like, ever since I was a kid, I wanted to be in a special, or magical world, whether it was how to train your dragon, or the owl house, or any of the various sci-fi shows, I have always wanted to be special, and I just wish I could live in a world of magic, or something, something but I know it’ll never happen, because no matter how hard I try I’ll never be special, or magic..

If only it could’ve ended like Armitage III where two cyborgs find love and start a family in dual matrix

Quick reminder that David never went full cyberpsycho he was minutes away at most but he still died as himself

This is like the show equivalent of eating spicy food. It hurts so good and you can't stop wanting more.

So is the point of the show to just watch people lose ?

While "I wanna Stay At Your House" and "Let You Down" are incredible, i think "Where Did Your Love Go" completely sells David and Lucys heartbreak and hopelessness during their fight in ep 8, one of the most beatifully tragic moments in the series and the song pulls it together completely.

He should have chose Rebecca, but then again, we gotta have conflict to make the show interesting😔

This show made replaying the game for the 10th time hurt. It was beutiful and it's one of one of favorite shows of all time nowadays

I am writing a tragedy. To my memory, it was this anime that made me want to write one.

The thing about Cyberpunk is that they didn't really have a chance. People like them don't get a chance in a world like this. There's a reason Johnny wanted to burn it all down. He wasn't just an edgelord. It was the only way he could see to change it.

I watch this show cuz of the song, thinking it's just another generic anime.

Shit hell ya this tragedy was worth it

And I hate Tragedies for the exact same reason. I don't LIKE IT when a story tries to insert itself into my head so deep I can't forget it. As much as I am drenched in media these days I like having a life outside of it, and Tragedies bring my mood down in a way I can't describe.

Honestly I only watched Edgerunners because someone off-handedly mentioned that Rebecca died, and she was the only character I was moderately familiar with prior to watching the show. It was all downhill from there, as shock of all shocks I don't actually like seeing characters I'm invested in die in horrific and tragic ways. David and Adam and Rebecca and Pilar and probably plenty of other pairings had a lot of sad and awful connections and little rhymes in their stories and or how they're framed in specific shots hinting at what would come later, and while in a sense that is beautiful, when a character I DO GENUINELY love ends up on the wrong side of authors execution board it makes me feels bad for ever getting interested in them to begin with. Life Has enough to hate about it as it stands, if we lived in a Utopia it'd be nice to have something fake to be sad about every now and then, but tragedy's a lot less poetic and lot more tragic than David & Lucy's happen every day in the real world.

David and Lucy had a great romance, love is giving oneself to others and both Lucy and David risked their lives for each other. There is no greater act of love than that

Beauty of tragedy. This show is honestly one of few that capture how incredibly beautiful is love and human relationships. This will stay with me for a long time. It reminded me how important it is to love and what love means in a time, when my relationship was at stake, and I'm really grateful for that.

small note but David told Lucy he didn't like smoking, and once they were together she did stop smoking. Just a small note but cool to notice

I just watched the show and I'm not able to get over it. I'm carrying around the sadness of the show and how good it was. I'm actually depressed rn because of the show and I don't even cry about movies usually.

Edge runner was so good because it was a tragedy. I think it would have broken the entire cannon of what cyberpunk is if it had a happy ending.

I still wish for a timeline where they actually talked, I love this tragic end but that what if scenario still aches in my heart.

Great review! Just watched it for the first time and now I fell quite dead inside, but in a good way. Hope I can find another show like this with either better or just as good plot and soundtrack(!), together with more episodes. This made my Wednesday!

The real tragedy in all this…Is Rebecca being stuck in the friend zone.

It’s crazy how this took place a year before the games. No one talks about the assault on Arasaka Tower, nobody mentions David or Maine, or anyone else. They’re gone and like his ripper told him, become the next legend that the stories will tell to the kids to convince them to walk the same path.

Jackie was like David, they wanted out of their old life, a life out of poverty. To become a legend in NC, and died for it.
