I'm 81 years old and learned Spanish while in my 60s. I have lived in Mexico for over 20 years now and have forgotten a few words in English because I don't use that much English anymore and I'm getting old. I laugh about it with my daughter all the time when we talk on the phone.

On thé début I remember I started with memorizing words I memorized the most words used at the language it means the common

Its useful at least to understand simple expressions but now I learn every words at sentences at videos or any content and I'm pretty good now I understand it very well
