Nice. Just in time before I watch them live in Singapore.

ОтветитьThey covered Hancock
ОтветитьThanks for the breakdown of the intro, Adi- learned a few things. Clearly the actual title of the track, "NOT TiGHT", promotes the ambiguity/starkness and prolonged non-resolution of the chords when they perform it! -Cody, UWEC grad
ОтветитьMaj7 chords and changing root note of chord using circle of 5ths, or going along diminished or augmented intervals, or tritones... perhaps even chromatic. Or just whatever arbitrary other maj7 chord you randomly switch to. But the aforementioned are mostly the patterns. Its so easy to just imorovise and play stuff that sounds identical. It helps that its just a 2 piece where 1 is a drummer.
ОтветитьIt's just acid jazz.
This guy lives in the 70's lol.
This stuff was around in the 80's soon as synths were combined with jazz.
And I heard that same groove some where else too so that's really ... ugh.
Look for Mark Farina compilations and other related material.
This isn't new - it's a copy of something.
No one is stopping you from playing jazz standards - but giving authorship of the standards to some one in a jam session playing the standards is wrong.
Thank you so much. This has really given me such a deeper appreciation for them and it makes the idea of making something of this flavour seem more attainable. Sending me on lots of rabbit holes!
ОтветитьNo idea what you said whatsoever. Pretty sounds tho
ОтветитьDomi and DJ versus Metalocalypse episode on Adult Swim. Do It.
ОтветитьI saw JD and Domi when they opened for Polyphia. It wasn’t everyone’s vibe, but being a musician myself, I really appreciated their craft. They are both extremely prodigious creators and it’s clear they put their time in.
Ответитьdude sounds jealous
ОтветитьThey are absolutely fantastic
ОтветитьI agree, the Hancock and Correa influence is clear. Beck’s drumming reminds me of Aphex Twin; particularly like his piece Rubber Johnny.
ОтветитьI cannot understand most of this, but it's still amazing and beautiful that there's actual science in this.
Ответитьi am obsessed with your glasses, they look so damn good on you, absolute props
ОтветитьAwesome. Thank you!
ОтветитьAnybody here remember watching Domi's videos from Berkeley and thinking "damn when she touches down its gonna be a mess for all the other keyboard players"😅 🤔
I'm glad God blessed me to see the world see what we saw some time ago...
The kids are great.
I don't really like their music although I like the idea of what they're trying to do. It's kind of an ugly sound and the drummer is all over the place.
ОтветитьSo cool, I immediately thought of Steely Dan. Would love to see you analyze some of the chords from aja!!
Ответитьi love seeing his interface in the background reacting to his vocals lol.
ОтветитьPure Zawinul to me. Nice but not uncommon. Obviously.
ОтветитьNeed to snag that Stan Getz album !thx 😎
ОтветитьAll these records tipps are pure gold :) thx
Ответитьהסרטונים שלך סופר אינפורמטיבים ופוגעים בול, תודה!
ОтветитьVery pleasantly surprised to hear someone appreciating Grady Tate's work on the Sweet Rain LP! I was completely blown away by it when I first heard it probably 20 years ago! Thanks for that recollection, sir.
ОтветитьI've heard these kinds of chords all throughout some of my favorite jazz fusion groups and never heard them analyzed the way you've done here. Much obliged Adi. Liked and subscribed.
ОтветитьReally enjoyed the presentation and pacing of this video - liked and subbed!
ОтветитьI find their music uninspiring. Domi solos sound like a binch of scales and arpeggios played as fast as she can, yet there is no sense of melody or melodic development. She is no doubt a virtuosic player technically, but not mature yet. Other young virtuosic players such as jesus molina, justin lee schultz, Joey Alexander, or Matteo Mancuso show the same level of technical mastery, but show a musical maturity in their improvisation that I've yet to see with Domi. She has the ability, but seems more interested in cosplay and being just a sideshow virtuoso. There have been many throughout the centuries, who have been known first as great pianists rather than great musicians. I hope Domi doesn't go down that path and will mature into her potential.
ОтветитьThanks.. 👍🙏
ОтветитьPerhaps it begs speculation, but is what separates Domi’s and JD’s arrangement techniques from others intentional or intuitive?
ОтветитьFantastic video. So well communicated and super insightful!
Ответитьyou should analyze a king gizzard and the lizard wizard song. I would love to see Astroturf analyzed.
ОтветитьThanks for posting!! Great talk !!!
ОтветитьWeatherReport. Zawinul Shorter Hancock Pastorius
Eclectic kids today try to copy….
Thanks for keeping an ear out.
Thanks for the video
Ответитьvery inspiring thank you for this
ОтветитьI have always wodered what kind of chords Domi uses. They sound so cool and unique.
ОтветитьOne thing I notice when Domi starts really flying with fast single note lines its very reminiscent of George Duke. Very cool.
ОтветитьThat was a lot of knowledge, thank you. Domi & JD Beck play here next month in the historic town of Winterthur/Switzerland, and the concert is for free..well!

Ответитьum, dunno no jazz whatever, um excuseme? to hear and feel fucking music, dick
ОтветитьWhat you haven’t accentuated is how, when and where Domi got into this music stylistically .
She is one of the most technically gifted musicians at such a young age I have ever seen.
I have been able to see such incredible players up close like OscarPeterson Chick Corea et Al , but I’ve never seen or heard anyone playing like this woman ,before and it was a privilege to see her and JD Beck at the Ronnie Scott Club last week.
Musically it was a little repetitive although enjoyable and entertaining.
I came away not remembering any one piece ,but the incredible virtuosity of her performance
playing not only 2 manual keyboards but bass pedals as well .
Their performance together impressively tight but in the end because of his style I found the drums more than annoying .
Your channel is absolutely excellent, please write a book / make a video course
ОтветитьChris Dave dog Chris daddy Dave if you don't know who he is you better fix that quick. You probably therefore need to check out Marc Guiliana especially with Phronesis and the drummer from Hiatus Coyote. Geez
ОтветитьJD Beck’s drumming kind of got me into Jungle DnB but it’s not the same, he’s just so good
