Weird how no one ever mentions the plot parallels here between Cana and August. They both sought out their unknowing parents and join their guilds but one just ended up old without ever saying a word while the other finally told her father and it ended up being the reason later on Gildarts was able to find out August’s weakness to holder magic. Then August decides to end everyone but as soon as he sees his own parent again he gives himself up for her.

This scene made me cry so hard. My dad died right before my 15th birthday, and I don't have a single memory of him ever saying he loves me. I was nothing to him. Although his parents just didn't know so I don't know if that makes it more sad or not.
