He’s a power play specialist , not much of a physical presence and has a lot of holes in his defensive game .
If Hutson keeps progressing at this pace the habs won’t need Matheson next year .

NOT saying he's Thornton, but Jumbo used to get a lot more assists than goals.

I think you can’t go too young in a rebuild. That is what teams that have taken a longer time in a rebuild have done. Hard to learn from mistakes when collectively you make a lot of them. Need veterans to provide stability and insulate the young players. Learn to play with structure and develop good habits.

It seems like a lot of ppl ignore that Matheson as a top pairing d is playing with a lot of defenseman on the top pair who are top 6 defenseman at best for few seasons with the Canadiens now. Imagine if Weber was still playing with the Canadiens and playing at a high level, that would have been a great type of partner for the Matheson on the top pair. But one thing about Weber he makes defenseman who are not very good look very good or unnoticeable at least when they are paired up with him and Matheson for sure doesn't do that just saying. Matheson is obviously no Weber not even close at all, they are on two different planets that's the difference but Matheson is a top pairing d no doubt.

I remember Weber making a defenseman like Victor Mete look good and he was very far from that. Mete right now is a free agent.

Very very important point brought up by Brian why on earth are they prioritizing mathesons needs over ghule in a rebuild. That’s mind boggling is management gonna have a conversation with this coach🤯

Good program Tony and Brian. Still a waiting game for this team to take shape. I just hope they can make the pain of losing a bit interesting.
For those frustrated Habs fans, I'd kindly suggest perhaps focusing a bit more on the Laval Rocket (and even the SKA team of KHL where Demidov plays) and get immersed in their journey for the AHL Calder Cup. Sick news about Pierre McGuire joining Tony for post games. I like what you did there SICK crew. The 'other guys' must be seething hehehe :D Pierre is ours.

Im finally thankful the habs media have come to their senses with Sam Montembeault. In 3 yrs he never once stood up as the #1 goalie. A a backup some nights he would shine. As a short term when Allen was hurt for a few games , he was great. However any longer injury term or last year when Allen got traded, Montembeault dtd not shine and Primeau outplayed him right to season end. This yr gm 1 excellent. Since then dog crap. I dont want to hear defense. Hughes/Gorton know their goaltending duo are both not NHL level

So many of us called for this Matheson trade to happen this summer. People like Engels thought we were crazy. We blew another opportunity to trade at peak value and now have another player completely tank we can add to Anderson, Gally, Savard who had great value and we held too long to now be basically worth nothing.

In some ways to me I think the Canadiens are building a team that's all about the offensive side with no defense and no grit/edge to their games like the way the former Maple Leafs management leader Kyle Dubus was constructing in Toronto.

Its very hard to be an elite team in the NHL that way, a team built like that as the culture is way more likely to be the opposite of elite in terms of trying to win a championship.

Ответить

Savard is a good stay at home defenseman but as a top 6 defenseman, not as a top 2 defenseman and never was anyways.

I am Dobes biggest fan but He is not the goalie i would recall at this moment in time. Hughes numbers are better, he is older and more experienced, Dobes was just injured and he needs more experience still but should be ready after a good run of games in a row. Hughes has earned a shot. Primeau needs to be sent down.

@bolo5190

One thing that I will say for sure is that to me Marc Bergavin was the complete opposite of Gorton and Kent Hughes in terms of how they wanted to build their hockey teams and that is a team full of gritty players with an edge who are very difficult to play against but that would come at the absolute expense of the offensive game for the players who are just elite at that side of the game. The great great teams are usually well balanced and could win a different ways on a regular if necessary. The Canadiens need to play players like Pezzeta and Arber on a regular and not just as a replacement when someone gets injured.

Indeed, Montreal really needs at least another second line center in Montreal but I still doubt that Hage will be the solution. However, if they could draft a Hagens or a Misa, as Brian said: these would be game changers in Montreal. Then that would possibly push Suzuki as 2C, Hage as 3C and finally Beck as 4C...not too bad !!!

Great show again!! Lets just calm down and hope the HAB will draft perfectly over and over until that team will be good..... cross finger. With some luck, we could pick a generational player in fiew year??? Im ok to wait, but the management need to show that they are in control of their plan and the players are doing there best every night event if they loose.

Too much focus and worry about Maatheson and the goalies this is a TEAM problem lack of strength and conditioning and a lack of coaching and improper use of ice time and who plays where.
This team has an incredible phobia to shooting IDK where they learned to play hockey but you need to shoot the puck to score.Passing is often atrocious weak soft passes 5 feet inside our line getting picked off passes trying to go through 3 sticks everything is a MESS this is like worse than Pewee hockey the IQ level of this team is bottom barrel.

After getting all these draft picks, the real work starts, they have to change the culture and play a structured game, that's not easy. Fans think the cup is a given because of all these players they're getting in the draft, but its only the start.
