Discover - Why They're Successful

I’ve been a Discover card holder since 1989. Been using the card a lot back in the day but now just use it a few times a year given I use the Costco Citi VISA the most given their much higher cash back. I haven’t used it over a year and did get a letter from them a couple weeks ago stating if I don’t make a purchase on it that they’ll close the account. It’s still worth keeping as an additional card when I need it so I’ll continue to use it given I’ve been a cardholder for so long.

Discover has great customer service and CapOne has the worst. Once they merge I’m out… after I pay off my cards 😂

Some serious feedback. YOur cadence when reading your copy, and the editing I really appreciate. You keep the pace up and you don't stuff your video with fluff and time wasters, or needlessly drag the read or edits. Good job on you and your editors.

I worked at Sears in early 2000 when discover had long been sold off. I attended a management meeting at one of the old discover office floors. Really weird to see all that empty space

I got my discover card back in 2022 to start building my credit. All in all I’ve had a good experience with them. It’s pretty easy to use and the customer service isn’t too bad. I had a few issues in the beginning with them charging me for payments failing while never explaining to me that they didn’t accept the bank account I was trying to use. But all in all it’s been a good experience. I love the cash back too

I remember the days when Discover was NOT widely accepted...felt like a joke card. I have one now...they got me with a higher credit line. I have Visa and Mastercard also and had AMEX in the past. I try to treat my credit cards like an AMEX card whenever possible! AMEX is the best experience by far...

Today, I have Visa only. In the past I had Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. Sears was the reason for the Discover card. No annual fee for me as the reason I did not have American Express. With all the interest fees on cards, I really don't want any and usually just pay cash. By the way, why are interest rates so high on these cards? It's almost akin to that of a loan shark.

Capital one and discover are the credit cards for the masses it'll make the jump globally soon.

I just got a discover card. I basically saw them on a sight that incentivises you to try thing by giving you money.

So they gave me money to open a debit account that gives you a tiny percent back.

It's only 1 percent, but compared to my regular bank card that doesn't give me any cash back its still better. If i can get any money back for just spending my money i see that as an absolute win.

I never heard of the discover card

I love that they have real customer service agents 24/7. I can't imagine that would continue if they get bought out ☹️

Discover was the first card I held, besides the visa that my bank gave me by default. I only use it for the 5% purchases, quarter by quarter. For cardhackers, it’s a great hobby to shop the best returns, but the landscape has gotten so competitive that 2% cards are taking over for those of us who don’t want to set reminders every time they want to make a purchase.

This is how I found out that Capital One is buying Discover. It’s kind of trippy because they were my first credit cards, still use both to this day.

Isn't Discover only big in US?
I hardly see anyone accept this even in Canada, not to mention Europe and Asia (I've been to almost 60 countries) - so are they just focusing in the States?

I had to get a cash secured discover card 6 years ago to build credit. Even back then they weren’t widely accepted😊

Higher interest rates and debt amount is great if you're a bank and your debtors are actually making their minimum payments.
Except delinquency and default rates are rising too.
But don't worry, I'm sure nothing bad will come out of this.

I’m a Discover car holder, and honestly it was the low barrier to entry for getting a card, I’m 21 and lived with a family that was terrified of credit cards because they perceive them as too risky, so I had no credit history except for a car note. Funny thing is, within 2 months of getting it, my credit score jumped ~45 points bc I always make the full payment and usually make payments in the middle of periods to keep my credit utilization down

They used to sponsor a mall called Discover Mills.

Discover has/had a deal for both the person referring and the person being referred to get $100 at sign on. Was a pretty good deal for a student

I've had my Discover Card since 1986. Use it all the time and pay it off every month.

Discover was my first credit card. It was my only card for 3 years. Then Amex sent an offer in the mail for a platinum card. Those have been my only 2 cards for 15 years.

Actually not a big fan of Discover. I have one, but their decision several years ago, despite my not having any late payments before or since, to go against the grain of my other cards that were increasing my limits to actually reduce my limit, without returning said limit since, has caused their card to become used only for very small purchases and much more infrequently than before. This might be one of the real reasons why they haven't been able to gain a larger share of the market, I think.

Crazy part is, I just started with Discover 4 months ago. I got them because of the excellent customer service, and the ability to ask for 0 APR for another year.

I love that their customer service is all in the US. Someone hacked my card and the person was extremely helpful. Additionally since we have been customers for so long they recently offered us 1.9% interest on purchases for a few months and 2 months after that ends to pay it off at that rate.

I've been a Discover card holder for over 20 years and I've been very happy with them. I paid off my balance 2 year ago and I haven't use it since and not because they are bad it's because I don't want a credit card balance due to the interest rates.

The discover it student card was my first credit card and helped me build credit easily and woth good cash back. No complaints

I remember when Sears offered everything from “socks to stocks” as part of their Sears Financial Network empire, including Sears Savings Bank and Allstate Savings & Loan in the 80’s.
