Seems wacky. Star Wars fans are corny. The music takes you out of how epic it is.

Since they no longer have a Death Star, is governing the Empire a bit more of a hassle to do with Star Destroyers? Or are there administration buildings on some other unnamed planet?

I wish Kylo Ren was with his grandfather Darth Vador during this scene. It would have been so right.

I was born 16 years after this movie was released but I love to wonder how people reacted when they first the Imperial March music from this movie in theaters for the first time! My dad was about to turn 10 later that year in 1980 and he still thinks it’s one of the best pieces of music he had ever heard coming from John Williams!

The Rebels would've been shocked if Darth Vader had decided to land his Super Star Destroyer on the ice planet of Hoth after discovering the Rebels went there after the Empire had driven them from their previous base on the forest moon of Yavin sometime after the original Death Star was destroyed by Luke Skywalker, who later on became the Rebels' commander.

Talk about immediately establishing a differing tone from A New Hope. In just these view minutes, the audience goes from "yay the Rebels destroyed the Death Star" to "Oh....shoot, they have more resources than just that space station...." That shot of the Super Star Destroyer eclipsing the other Star Destroyers is just genius visual language, playing on iconography the audience is already familiar with while also just further establishes how truly underpowered the Rebels are despite their victory in the last movie.

I can't imagine standing on that command walkway and NOT getting hopelessly drunk on power. Even the fucking Buddha would come unBuddha

Darth Vader is a good guy, the skywalker is a playboy and not good guy

In a lot of ways the Executor was more visually stunning and exuded far more menace than either Death Star.

It’s crazy to me this series peaked over 40 years ago on the second movie. The best movie in the franchise and it’s not even close.

The Super Star Destroyer is like the equivalent of the German Navy ship the Tirpitz

Why would they build em so big, where would they get the material, and where would all the people to fill em with come from? It's too complex and mind baffling to think about if it were actually real.

The very first time I saw this in the movies at 14 when the officer off-screen says "Admiral?" I thought it was Vader but his voice was weak for some reason..

Can I just comment on the genius of John Williams with such an iconic piece? It is well written. To me it bears a likeness of The Funeral March, but instead of it being arranged to be slow and somber it is bombastic and fear inspiring.

It's just amazing to see - after the first movie, with the destruction of the Death Star, a lot if people probably thought the Empire is weakened, on the brinks of collapse, some might say but no - this scene tells a whole different story! The Empire was weakened on that day !but! it's florishing, still expanding - not just it's arsenal of weapons, it's fleet but also it's territory. It became more determined to annihilate what it sees, as a now serious threat, the Alliance. The sole purpose of this fleet we see on the screen, 'Death Squadron' under the command of Lord Vader himself. And that is also a story that this single scene tells us. God I love the old movies.

I like how the Empire actually seemed like a competent organization (mostly white men resembling German officers in WWII) in the originals which makes you take them seriously, whereas in the Disney crapshoot they made them to be diversity recruit women working in HR that make scrapbooks in their free time.

Back in the days of real Star Wars, before Disney ruined it.

Still not matched by CGI to date

Have any of you ever seen pictures from the Soth Pacific during WWII? A few pictures from some island; a brief waystop and airfield, where you look at a distant horizon and see nothing But ships. Most of course are transports; Freighters supplying the warships... but a sea of ships. Wonder how John Williams' Imperial March would fit that?

I always loved the vibe that the Imperial fleet had during scenes like this. The TIE fighters buzzing around made it seem almost like a beehive as they darted back and forth between the monolithic Star Destroyers that floated by slowly. And then, eclipsing them all is the Executor. It was instantly chilling, and the buzzing of the TIE fighters made it almost seem like an attack dog chomping at the bit.

A surprise it was to see a Super Star Destroyer much larger than the other ones and that it was Darth Vader's flagship.
