The Lion's Mound, overlooking what once was a battlefield, commemorate the Allies' victory over Napoleon's imperial trips. The beast, placed on top of this 40 metres hill, seems to be roaring towards France still. This man-made mound topped with a cast iron sculpture is the most famous monument in Belgium. Built between 1823 and 1826, it is said to mark the place where the Prince of Orange was injured on 18 June 1815. 226 steps take you up the hill, nicknamed the Monument to the Dutch, which offers an exceptional view of the battlefield.
