I've only watched the remade version but judging from this trailer this movie seems to be a lot more scandalous

Eastwood played the ultimate player / seducer in this film but it all backfired on him, good cautionary tale for the womanisers out there.

This movie IS very unClint - Eastwoodlike. I kinda felt sorry for the soldier; the girls were all just pawing all over him. It was impossible to stay in everybody's good graces.
One scene was the clincher; I felt it was stupid on his part - and really what spelled-out his downfall. It's when he throws the little 11 year old girl's turtle. That was a very stupid mistake. Things had already reached a crescendo, hurting that little girl's pet dug his grave.

Watched this classic movie again on dvd (i'd forgotten just how dark a film it is). The child/teenage actresses were superb and Clint playing out of type. I'd give those mushrooms a miss, lol.

Please don’t let this trailer have you think less of this film. I watched it and it was such a refreshing film because it was a bit different. Dan Siegel, the Director kept your attention just the way he was really good at the details. I’m guessing it was an R-rated movie, because there was a little bit of nudity, (if you don’t want your kids watching it) other than that due to all the modern day movies out there , this is reversed. A lot of dialogue, but it keeps your attention. Eastwood carried himself very well. Now that I think about it during Clint’s career, I wonder if he should’ve leaned towards more movies that were based on plays.. This movie is not boring at all compared to action movies.
