The only thing I dislike is hdr.
I don't understand it, it's just more contrast... I never had hdr before but it's not my thing, dark are darker and bright are brighter. But I like my game to not be too contrasted. On some games like Cross Code it's not great at all.

Have an ROG Ally after gifting my OG Steam Deck to a friend. I now let my partner primarily use the Ally and I’ve gone back to the Steam Deck OLES as my primary. Quick resume is just too convenient for pick up and play sessions especially for JRPGs (Persona 5 atm) Hoping Steam OS comes to other handhelds so I can enjoy that crisp 1080p text again.

Says deck oled is the one to choose here, constantly talks about how much more powerful the other devices are, and how it isn't the best screen considering other screens offer different uses. All over the place with this one.

This OLED model would have been my choice easily, but I already have tons of games on other services other than Steam, I didn't want to repurchase them for hundreds of dollars and also not have the saved data either. The ROG Ally is still more than good enough for me.

I feel like Cyberpunk was generally optimized for Steam Deck with recent updates and it runs better than before on both versions. Same with BG3 in Act 3.

I've been interested in a portable. Ive been stuck between a steam deck and legion go. The large screen, power and compatibility makes me lean towards the legion go

I want the ROG but im pretty sure we will get an updated version in 2024 with similar improvements to the Steam Deck. So i will get the Steam Deck in the new year and enjoy that whilst waiting for ROG 1.5😊

The only thing the Ally does better than the Deck imo is its power when plugged in to a desktop set up (i.e. with a dock, screen and possibly an external GPU). All the other things it technically does better don't seem worth it to me if the thing I'm using it for is an "on the go PC gaming device". The worse battery life and overall efficiency kills the "on the go" aspect for me, personally. I'd rather have a slightly weaker system that lasts longer with a better screen

If games adapt/apply the new FSR3 fps wont really be a problem anymore even if the chip is slower than the others.

Note that the removable liner in the carry case is ONLY available if you purchase the 1TB model. The 512GB comes with the standard case.

Love my OLED, but still waiting on WiFi and sound drivers for my Windows partition :(

I hope when Tom tests these handhelds he doesn't just slam them all to max power draw to compare them. How they function as portables away from power is a major part of how I made my purchase decision at least.

The only concern is that Microsoft is just one slick windows update away from rendering SteamOS obsolete.

Just a simple touch centric interface and reduced background process demand. At that point not exactly sure what SteamOS offers that’s actually unique.

Good review, but you're mistaken on the suspend feature. The quick resume feature is the main reason I prefer my steam deck over my Ally. You can just push the power button and it's back where you left it unlike the windows handhelds which are very unpredictable

It's certainly not the same chip. The 6nm is more than 10% smaller than 7nm and used like 20% less power so with less power use and larger battery you get close to 50% more effective usage

I recently bought the OLED steam deck and it really is an incredible piece of tech paired with steam OS. Unsupported games generally work and I ran my deck through a bunch of older PC ports around the 360/ps3 era with great results. Plays Yakuza and FromSoftware games with ease. Supports PS5 remote in HDR and can run Xbox game pass. I think this is the ultimate companion piece for gamers who have everything and an amazing console for the rest of us.

1. Saying Lenovo product is future proof is showing lack of knowledge about Lenovo post-release products' support.
2. 50 minutes battery on 25w and no sleep option makes these Windows consoles totally impractical.

If you want great experience just to gain and to run emulations in my opinion, steam deck all is much better. I had ROG ally and the user experience was really bad windows 11 on a small screen is just not a good experience, especially not without a keyboard and a mouse

I sold mine I bought a steam deck and I believe for me personally, it’s a much better experience. I consider myself a noob gamer, so that UI experience is much better and the ability to stop gaming and come back to them and continue whereas that’s not possible on windows 11 because both , sleep mode and hibernate mode are not working for gaming

So if you know what you’re doing, and you don’t mind a clunky experience, please buy a Windows 11 based handheld because it gives you more freedom

And for others who want a handheld gaming PC, where they don’t have to tinker with a lot and just focus on gaming and downloading emulations and stuff in my opinions steam deck is much better for that

Well Steam deck for on the go but for high demand games? I'm just going to use a normal PC.
I did look up for the ROG, but the battery is kind of bad, which kind of defeats the game on the go purpose for me. You only have a few hours of game play out side when compared to the Steam deck. Yes, it is slower, but I can play without worrying about the battery like before, tbh the FPS of SD when play cycber punk is not too bad for me

I travel a lot for business. For me the Steam Deck OLED is great for ease of use and value, screen does look incredible, but the Ally is literally a mini PC (& only £100 or so more), can run any games library I want and has more power. So I went with the Ally, going to hook it up to hotel TVs and have a mini games/media station wherever I go,

I bought the Steam Deck OLED from the US. I live in India, but my wife traveled to the US for work, and she is bringing it. She is returning this weekend. So excited for the Steam Deck OLED.

I was torn between the ROG Ally and Steam Deck OLED. I finally sided with the Steam Deck OLED due to ease of use that everyone is talking about, OLED screen, and terrific support that Steam is offering. However, I do like the ROG Ally for its more compact size, 1080p screen (which can come in handy when using Windows for other tasks), and 120Hz (again, while using Windows UI/apps).

Maybe I will also buy the ROG Ally 2 when it comes out maybe in the next two years?
