What is Kanishka bombing

On June 23, 1985, Air India flight 182 was operated lusing a Boeing 747, named after the Kushan dynasty emperor Kanishka, departed from Toronto with stops planned at Montreal's Mirabel airport, London's Heathrow, Delhi's Palam, and Bombay's Sahar. After picking up additional passengers in Montreal, Flight 182 carried a total of 329 people, including 22 crew members, mostly Canadians of Indian descent.

The plane left for England but lost contact with Shannon Air Traffic Control Center five minutes later, disappeared from radar.
The bombing of Air India Flight 182 is the worst terrorist attack in Canadian history, the deadliest aviation incident in the history of Air India and was the world's deadliest act of aviation terrorism until the September 11 attacks in 2001

Mid-air explosion

A bomb, originating from Vancouver and placed in the cargo, exploded, leading to the plane's wreckage being discovered off the Irish coast. The tragic incident resulted in no survivors. Responsibility has primarily been attributed to the terrorist group Babbar Khalsa, with the Canadian Commission of Inquiry also implicating the International Sikh Youth Federation.
In the final report, Justice John Major bluntly stated, "This is the largest mass murder in Canadian history, caused by a series of cascading errors."
Previous warning

The Canadian government had been warned by the Indian R&AW about the possibility of terrorist bombs aboard Air India flights in Canada, and over two weeks before the crash, CSIS reported to the RCMP that the potential threat to Air India as well as Indian missions in Canada was high.
On the day of the bombing, all RCMP police dogs trained to sniff out bombs were away from Canadian airports for a training session in Vancouver. In Montreal, where there was a backup dog, it wasn't brought to the airport until after the plane had already left.

Extremists were reportedly planning to target this flight. Justice Major later commented in an interview that if things had been handled differently, the outcome might have been different.

Victims:
A casualty list was provided by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation:
The victims included 268 Canadians, 27 Britons, 22 Indians, and 12 people of undetermined nationality. Canadians of Indian descent made up the majority of the passengers
Between 82 and 86 passengers were children, including six infants

What Dr. S Jaishankar said:
Today marks the 39th anniversary of one of the worst acts of terrorism in history,” Jaishankar said. “Pay my homage to the memory of the 329 victims of AI 182 ‘Kanishka’ who were killed this day in 1985. My thoughts are with their families. The anniversary is a reminder why terrorism should never be tolerated.

But the sad part is Canadian Parliament paid tribute to pro-Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

In conclusion, governments and political figures that aid terrorists for their personal benefit will ultimately be held accountable. Any such activity by political parties must be vehemently condemned and opposed by us as civilians.
