Selfhost in the Cloud ? What ? Oo
ОтветитьDo not use cloud based password managers. Password managers working locally, like Virgo Password Manager and Keepass, these are the safe ones.
ОтветитьThis is just what I was looking for as the world of trying to recall so many passwords is insurmountable these days. Home hosting I feel is safest, but one item missing from the video and tbh all YT examples I have found and paramount if home hosting. How do you backup and protect against loss of the database, plus restore to new host ensuring all your family passwords are safe? Your videos Chuck are some of the best but I feel extending this to a backup/recover section for something as important as Password Manager would be a great addition :)
ОтветитьFor people who did this, how did you backup the server/docker? Want to make sure I have a backup incase of a crash
Ответитьcould use passwdsafe and use ssh (scp) to backup & store the database on a machine at home and not on a cloud
Maybe have a wireguard vpn as only ooe Port on router at home , use duckdns to find you "way back home" when backing up the password database.
Idea is to reduce online exposure, cloud server ≠ minimized exposure
I get a ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED when i try to open my registration link. On linode i have no firewall active and also on the linode itself there is the firewall disabled. Any ideas?
ОтветитьHello NetworkChuck, am enjoying all your content, lol
I don't use an open source password manager, just love Roboform
vaultwarden
ОтветитьHow does this compare with a swlf hosted vaultwarden
ОтветитьGood video.
ОтветитьIs there a complete free version
Ответитьcan be host in cpanel hosting possible ?
ОтветитьWhat about checksum verification and pgp integrity of downloaded prorgams? Nobody covers these and i have to say, you might be the only one that can make it understandable chuck
ОтветитьLove your videos always learning some new ways to be secured. :)
ОтветитьThis guy could be on network TV.
ОтветитьCan you make a video how to install Bitwarden on a free google cloud VM?
ОтветитьOff subject but a quick question. All the network cables (cat 5) and switches in my house are 20+ years old. Should I consider replacing them even if they are working fine?
ОтветитьCan you do passbolt behind npm? Thanks,
Ответитьusing a cloud server means giving all your data to those companies will be the more or less same to subscribe to password companies, unless you are using self hosted server with your own hardware, i think you are just finding a way to promote linode which is okay but would be nice if you could clarify for newbies that cloud server is also not the best practise.
ОтветитьWhy just don't use pass (gpg + git for storing)?
ОтветитьHow do I get my passbolt URL back?
ОтветитьCan this run along side FileCloud on the same machine? Or does it take some extra port configuration?
ОтветитьLove your videos. Just FYI most people I have seen refer to traefik as “traffic” I know I know makes no sense to me either. 😂
ОтветитьSo, what will happen if a cloud provider dies?
All passwords lost?
You spent so many clicks to delete the ports in nano. why not use dd command on vi instead
ОтветитьBitwarden local install. (or into own controlled cloud)
Ответитьother password managers than lastpass exist, yk bitwarden
ОтветитьWhy is setting this up so much more annoying than Bitwarden?
ОтветитьBro I need you help.
ОтветитьI am not an expert but you are giving your passwords to the cloud server right? Instead of password manager.
ОтветитьIf you're hosting stuff in someone else's PC (e.g. Linode), then you're not "self-hosting" anything, by definition... 😕😒
Ответитьyou never showed how us how to do it on a self hosted ubuntu server. and your YAML file is corrupt
ОтветитьI went another level and actually wrote my own password manager lol
ОтветитьButters gif: "that's an ad!"
ОтветитьIf I were going to host it in my own machine would I just put localhost instead of the other server you paid for. Also what about the part when you said put in domain any way to get around that without a domain.
ОтветитьI think you meant to say “I personally use dashlane, because they pay me. Obviously their not paying you so it’s not going to work for you”
Don’t get me wrong appreciate the content but we all know why you use some services 😅 like linode.
Use mobile number authorization or password generator for safing your accounts..
ОтветитьHi, Chuck where did you buy sweater with anonymous pic ?
ОтветитьThanks a lot ,really helpfull
ОтветитьI laughed when he said best place to store all your passwords is cloud..
Best way to secure your passwords:
1. Notebook placed in a locker
2. csv file on an encrypted flash drive.
Anything that sits on a live system can be hacked into.
Amazing!! Thanks a lot, I love such kind of self hosting bids, putting control back into our hands from big tech
ОтветитьNANO For the WIN!!!
ОтветитьI use KeePass (Linux) or KeyPass (Winders) and have always felt safe enough...
Ответитьcloud val steeds hacken niet save genoeg
ОтветитьIf you're logging in as root, why are you sudoing?
I like your videos, and I totally understand this is a rushed video to 1. promote your affiliate of Linode and 2. provide an alternative to self-hosted password managers.
But logging in as root and using `sudo` is redundant.
Back practice to login as root.
Use a standard user, and add to sudoers list.
Feel proud to know know creators very closely. Party at their place. see early days how passbolt was developed.
ОтветитьI don't understand how traefik is checking for domain ownership. Can I do this with my own domain handled by Cloudflare?
ОтветитьI mean, that looks slick, but I think I'll stick with my KeePass + Syncthing approach. That way my password vault is local only, and I've got my password vault set up to require my yubikey in addition to a password to decrypt. I think it works well enough for my needs and passbolt would be, at best, a wash in terms of security, if not a downgrade.
