Metal gear solid is the most confusing franchise in history.

I dunno, MGSV kinda spells it plain and simple that Big Boss turned against the world because he was no longer willing to be its puppet, but he took a twisted vision of the Boss's vision with him. Instead of ending war like she wanted, he put the other half of the system in motion that keeps the world in a cycle of conflict, the adversary to the Patriots who is the other half. He is quite literally, the man who sold the world.
