http://www.rnproductions.in/ There are about 40 million blind people in the world. Out of this, an estimated 15 million are in India, almost a one-third of the world's blind population. About 1.1 million people suffer from bilateral cornea blindness, i.e. an opaque cornea. The eyesight of such people can be restored by corneal grafting surgery, i.e. replacing the opaque cornea with a clear cornea.

We also need about 20,000 eye balls per year for the people whose corneas are damaged with eye infections, occupational hazards such as continuous heavy electric work, accidents, as well as deficiencies of vitamin A. Thus, the requirement of eyeballs is very substantial, but the actual collection is very poor.

Every year about 10 million people die in India, but eyeballs are collected only from 15,000 dead bodies only. Rest of the eyeballs are either cremated or buried with the deceased persons. With the object of collecting and making available maximum number of eyeballs for the cornea grafting surgery, an eye bank, a nonprofit organization
