Well reasoned list. I still think Johns should be #1. Cowboys and Storm were still through and through good and great teams (respectively) without Thurston and Smith, but Knights and the Blues were absolutely abysmal the minute Johns left the field.

Mark Gasnier…not even in the top two to have played in his position at the Dragons. Don’t Clickbait your title with the “greatest of all time” title. Best Shark? Steve Rogers! Best Titan? Tino. Warriors? Agree. Panthers? Fittler hands down. Bulldogs? Mortimer but I can live with selecting Lamb. Manly? Obviously Bob Fulton. I didn’t see much of him at his best but there is loads of video around for anybody interested in searching. Probably agree with Inglis but I haven’t seen a lot of footage of Coote or Churchill. Yeah, Marshall for the current version of the Tigers if you aren’t going to include Tedesco. Ok with Fittler at easts just ahead of sbw. Canberra definitely Mal, closely followed by Clyde. Parramatta- Ray Price. So underrated. Known as a workhorse but brought so much more. Lockyer agreed for Broncos.Newcastle, Cowboys, Storm pick themselves

You really shouldn't use the phrase "OF ALL TIME" if you are limiting it modern players.

Behahahaha

“Greatest of all time”

But only from the 1980s till now…

So…not the greatest of all time then?

Best of the modern era? Maybe

But this isn’t a true GOAT list.

Correct choice for Nathan Cleary for Panthers GOAT. You gotta add more to his name now as of late

Amongst Bronco fans there may be some heavy debate. Wally Lewis, Gordon Tallis, etc. From my persective, I would pick Allan Langer. The NRL had to make several rule changes to stop him and for me he had more impact on the Broncos winning titles than Lockyer did. Just saying!

Great list, agree with most. Andrew Johns cannot be included in these names, I too thought he was an immortal until I read his biography, you simply cannot include a drug cheat in this list. The fact that he was named an immortal even after confessing to using cocaine and other drugs to allow him to process information faster on the field and to dull the pain of injury is a travesty that I hope will be righted one day.

How can you leave out Wally??? The goat. Pearce way way way better than Marshall. Would have gone with laurie over mal. Lyons fizzled in origin games, no impact at all. At matavai was considered for the warriors??? I guy that can’t catch a high ball!! Lamb and gallon were solid choices if not extremely boring picks. Sbw was better than lamb as was ET over gallon.

No Inglis didn't win any premierships at the storm because he and other greedy players wanted top dollar and forced the club to cheat or lose them. When u have the best 4 players in the game and then spend 1 million more per year than the salary cap and all other teams it makes a massive advantage thats 2 origin calibre players in your team . The cap was only 4 million in 2008 and they spent 5
And to think MANLY beat them 40 Nil. a team with slater inglis falou crocker cronk jhonson white lima hoffman geyer tolman . Its incredible looking at that team and thinking they got beat by 40 and didn't score a point.

Its not relevant to say one player was better than another, Canterbury won the grand final in 1985 with Mortimer as Half Back, I hated watching him play, I always thought he had a jelly back, again Greg Alexander was a brilliant Half, was he not as good as Nathan Cleary, was Ray Price not worth a mention.

Mal Meninga was Canberra's best player?!?! They were towelled up in the '91 GF because Stuart and Daley were injured while a fully fit Mal was chopped down by Freddy and couldn't do squat from centre, like most other centres apart from Gasnier, Fulton and Kenny. You know nothing about league.

Ranking johns at 3? What’s your guide dog’s name? Most of your selections are based on stats. Smith was able to play 8 million games cos he was was 3rd man in or grabbing at defenders. Never stood in front of big men and sat them on their arse. Same with Jonathon “turnstile” Thurston. He had the shoulders of a brown snake. You’re basing these top two on the number of games and rep games. I will take johns everyday of the week and twice on sundays.

Lockyer is the greatest all around player of all time. Thurstan and smith are the best ever in their positions but lockyer is the best 6 ever and a top 5 all time fullback as well. smith's leadership and longevity is unmatched but that doesnt make him the greatest player. The only person to be the best player in the world in 2 positions, carrying a depleting broncos squad to a premiership over the strongest storm squad they ever produced and likely would have lead the broncs to another gf if he didnt have his face broken in 2011.

Always knew you would rate Cameron Smith as the greatest. He is undoubtedly the greatest Koala (protected species) in the history of the game. He got away with so many things at all levels of the game that no other player has in the past and dare I say it ever will in the future. Apart from this his obvious talent and longevity in the game made him the only choice. He was very fortunate to have played with so many talented players over such an extended time and I can't help but wonder if he would be rated so highly if he had played for a lesser less successful team as the Storm over his career.

I don't really like 'lists' but this is well thought through. I think Benji was a better player than Farrah. Andrew Johns was the greatest player I've seen play the game, my preference, but Cameron Smith and Jonathan Thurston were just unreal. Cameron's playmaking and kicking to control games makes him so worthy of #1 spot. Thanks for the trip down memory lane of the greatest players to play this beautiful sport 👌🏉
