The U.S. needed to detox from the cheap chinese disposable goods consumed everyday. It may be a little more expensive but the benefits of supporting local business including products manufactured in the US far outweight the benefits of supporting cheaply made products from China. Many of which are made in sweat shops.

I am Australian, subscribed, for a while now, generally enjoy your reporting, I am 90% in support of Trump and have been fighting on his behalf in forums since 2015, and blocked friends over it, but I also have lived in China for 20 years now, with my Chinese wife who is a member of the National Democracy Party, not the CCP. I said I support Trump 90%, I agree with his nationalism, anti corruption, anti immigration, get spending back to the people etc, but he has got it wrong with these tariffs. The tariffs idea are good for any country that is bleeding trade deficit, but you can't go in as hard as he has overnight, you just can't.

China will be fine, can hold out a lot longer than the US can, and citing a few critical products like the ethane doesn't change the big picture. Why don't you mention it from the other side, such as US Farmers who need critical supplies of fertilisers, pesticides, herbicides etc that are all coming from China, this will seriously hit Farmers hard very soon, and will have shortages and raise food prices as they seek out other more expensive countries to get supplies. That's beside the Farmers who export a hell of a lot of product to China.

We get a down wind from China and would get all the crud, foul and polluted air - which of course they deny. 2. Donald Trump Jr. was invited by the head of Shinsegae (Macy's of S. Korea). Trump Jr. flew in on the 29th and flew out the following day. During one day he met with 10 largest conglomerates including Naver and aforementioned Shinsegae. He didn't meet any politicians on this trip. 3. Wang Yi the FM of China once made a racist remark towards S. Korea and Japan 'Don't try to be like westerners by dying your hair blonde!' Not going to earn friends that way.

In China it cost Nike $3 to make a $200 dollar pair of shoes....the idea they are only able to keep prices low by producing overseas is a spit in your face....and I am capitalist to the core....

We're able to eat more fresh dairy, produce, and meats again, returning to how we ate earlier in our marriage and also to the brief good times between 2018 and 2020. Dems are freaking out about tariffs, etc., now, but were completely unconcerned with families having to treat HOT DOGS and EGGS like luxuries in the recent past.

We have three adolescent males in our house, and I have NOT been pleased at having to skimp on meat and fresh produce during the Biden years. I don't know how we would have gotten through those years if we hadn't had so much food storage on hand. (Built up during the good years, praise God! 🙏🏻)

China did away with the ehtane tariff because they resell it. They're doing it with liquified natural gas and other petro products too. Its about the only way they're making money. If we were smart we'd quit selling petro products to them.
